16 Things To Do in Gulf County, Florida

Here are a few of the many things to do in Gulf County, Florida.

  • Freshwater Fishing – What’s not to love about freshwater fishing?  In my opinion there is nothing more relaxing than spending the afternoon on a kayak with a cane pole chasing Largemouth Bass listening to the sound of the water underneath you.  If you head towards Dead Lakes Recreation Area off Highway 71 I in Wewahitchka you can do just that.
  • Boating, Charters, and Marines – Is there a better way to see the Gulf?
  • Visit Captain Charlene – Head of St. Joseph Bay and find out what Animal Stumped Marine Biologist, Captain Charlene is up to.  You can head on our guided tours and discover brittle stars, starfish, sea squirts, seahorse, and more.  Be sure to talk to Captain Charlene from About Fun Charters. Tour St. Joseph Bay at sunset and see birds, fish, sea life and the resident dolphin – Danny. Or is it Dolly? You’ll have to visit to find out.
  • Fill your bucket with scallops – During scallop season you can try scalloping, which is something the whole family can enjoy.  Whether a beginner or a pro, it doesn’t require much more than getting your saltwater license, grabbing a bucket and heading for the water.
  • Diving and Snorkeling – Did you know you can dive off more than 200 artificial reefs?  The Gulf Country offers access to several dive sites and different dive operations, and you can rent all your gear.
  • Paddleboarding and Kayaking – Don’t miss out on a super relaxing day on a paddle board or kayak.
  • Camping – Yes, let’s go camping, from St. Joseph Peninsula State Park to Indian Pass Campground there is plenty of camping fun to be had.
  • Shelling – Goes sea shell hunting on the St. Joe Beach!
  • Dolphin Parade – Wake up early and see if you can catch a pod of dolphins playing and chasing a school of fish close to shore.  There was a family who happened to see a dolphin parade every morning when they woke up.
  • Park – Head over to VisitGulf.com and check out a list of the GCFL’s most famous parks.
  • Eat – Don’t forget to try one of the many restaurants in GCGL.
  • Horseback Riding – Go horseback riding on the beach! Now, this is one of the first things I would do, and you can do it on the soft sands of Cape San Blas.  Horseback rides right alongside the beach to watch the sunset over the ocean.
  • Hunting – Tell people they can go hunting for hogs, frogs, and even duck in the northern end of Gulf County.
  • Golf – Nothing says relaxation is like a game of golf, which can be played on the 72-par, 18-hole layout tucked between Port St. Joe and Cape San Blas.  The St. Joseph Bay Golf Club is open to the public.
  • Beach bouncing – Take the family to a different beach every day and experience everything that the beach has to offer.  Whether it’s shelling or fishing, you’ll have a good time.
  • Walking or riding bikes – Take advantage of the trails and bike paths.  BeachWalk, BayWalk Trail, and Loggerhead Run Bike Path are all open to the public and a great way to relax. Go bike riding on an afternoon adventure by the coast. Be sure to watch for the Eagles flying by!  Go for a hike and witness the local wildlife, such as deer, bobcats, squirrels, raccoons, kingfishers, great horn owls and even otters!
  • Snuba dive – You can rent a charter boat and go snuba diving!  This allows you to dive with air, but without a tank.

These are a few of the many things you can do when you visit Gulf Country, Florida.  Where it’s easy to enjoy the fresh air, being outside, going on adventures with the family, and live for the moment.  From Snorkeling to horseback riding, be sure to check out the Gulf County Adventure Guide before you head out on your next Florida vacation.
