Tips To Help Kids Avoid Summer Learning Loss

Can you believe it?  We are already talking about things you can do to help your child avoid summer learning loss also known as the “summer slide.”  To help you get a jumpstart on your summer learning plans I wanted to share a few ideas to help kids avoid learning loss over the summer.

Here are a few ways you can help your kids avoid summer learning loss, often referred to as “summer slide”.

Consider summer school

I know, nobody wants to think about summer school, but it is something to consider if your child didn’t do as well as they should have during the school year.  The last thing you want is for them to lose any bit of learning they did during the school year.  They could risk falling even further behind.

Schedule reading time daily

Each day for 30 minutes has the kids read a book they picked out themselves from the library.  They should be able to find something that interests them at your local library.  Plus it’s a great activity to do with them.

Make them start paying

Money is a great way to keep the kids learning a little math without them knowing it.  You can also have them earn money by helping you out around the house.  Math is a skill that is easy to lose over the summer, so anything and everything helps.

Don’t forget to cook and bake with your children.  This is an excellent way to get those math, reading and science skills going.  Plus, when it’s all said and done it sure will taste yummy!

Summer camp

I used to want to go to summer camp as a child, but my parents couldn’t afford to send us.  I can’t afford to send my kids every year either, so I do understand, but if you are able to send them to summer camp, it’s a perfect place for them to have fun during the summer months and keep their body and mind busy.

Summer is Fun. The outdoors are great to have activities with your kids but it is also the best to enhance your kids brain by giving them ample time to educate them more during summer.
