PBS Distribution released on March 27, 2018 the wonder “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood: It’s a Beatiful Day Collection” DVD in honor of the 50th year anniversary of the show. PBS distribution delivers great shows like Nova and Masterpiece. It is beautiful to see the legacy of Mr Rogers’ live on through his foundation and distribution of his show across the world. The kindness, uplifting attitude and motivation brought forth through his personality and subjects presented in his show will make you smile and bring tranquility to your life.
This DVD is great not only for adults reminiscing but also for children. Their episodes are a bit longer than most children shows now, with interesting guests, topics and make-believe stories. The range of topics discussed is great. They cover kindness to ourselves, our planet, imagination, emotions, how-to’s, music, arts and self-esteem. This DVD has over 32 episodes, some of which I remember and others that were as brand new to me as they were to my children and husband, who watched with me. As a parent I loved the important concepts presented like what to expect in school, new instruments like the harmonica, differences in people and those around us presented in Mr Rogers’ calm voice and demeanor. As a parent I wish I could have that fluid characteristic. My children loved the puppets and dramatics used like snow, the make-believe castle, trolley, sand table, toys and fish that were just amazing to them, as they are both between the ages of 5, the exact intended audience for this show.
I was so enthused about “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood: It’s a Beautiful Day Collection” DVD and so were family friends that noticed it on my desk and asked to watch while visiting. I was very excited to see the trains and reminisce on one of the few loved shows I watched as a child. My favorite part was always when Mr Roger switched his sweater and shoes, it made me see the change in atmosphere once you were home, so calm and relaxed. My husband, who had never seen the show as a child watched with me and loved his calm voice and demeanor. We watched a few episodes every few days and had plenty to watch with over 900 minutes of content across four discs. My children loved the real-life portion of it and of course the ties they have to Daniel Tiger. I loved to see the guests and how well-spoken and knowledgeable each one was. I definitely do not remember Bill Nye being on the show as a child and now I see it as a great combination of both persons. The plethora of guests was wonderful and my household and friends have thoroughly enjoyed this DVD collection.
