I have had a passion for reading since childhood. During my teen years, I would spend every free minute I had with a book in my hands. It is also important to me that my children develop a love for reading. To help foster this, I began reading to them before they were even born. So far, my two older children truly enjoy reading and my youngest likes being read to. Finding books that keep a one year-old interested for more than a minute is not always easy. When Silver Dolphin Books offered to send me some books for my little one, I jumped at the chance.
Silver Dolphin Books is just one of five imprints within Printers Row Publishing Group. In 1990, Printers Row’s first imprint, Thunder Bay Press, published its first book. Silver Dolphin Books published their first print shortly after. Over time, Printers Row added three: Canterbury Classics, Portable Press, and Studio Fun International. Today, Printers Row Publishing Group’s list of titles continues to grow and the books are sold all over the world.
Silver Dolphin Books specializes in books designed for preschoolers to 12-year-olds. The company’s goal is to create books that keep children engaged and inspired to learn. They believe in nurturing a love of reading and creative expression. The books published range from illustrated toddler board books to art kits. The books I received are Woodworks Nursery Rhymes: Wheels on the Bus, Peek-a-Boo Sliders: Pet, and Itsy Bitsy Spider. Woodworks Nursery Rhymes: Wheels on the Bus is illustrated by Elliot Kreloffand and intended for ages 0 to 3. The chunky board book comes with a wooden school bus and a play mat. It has 16 pages and features bold, bright colors. You can pick this book up for $13.99 right on the Silver Dolphin website. The Editors of Silver Dolphin Books and illustrator Nathalie Choux created Peek-a-Boo Sliders: Pet. This 10 page board book has full color art and is designed for ages 0 to 3. This book lets children use the sliders on the pages to bring the adorable pets to life. With the sliders, the pets move up, down, left, and right. It is available on the website for $8.99.
Itsy Bitsy Spider, illustrated by Emily Bannister also has 10 pages. Measuring 7″ x 7″, the board book is just right for little hands. This book puts a fun twist on the nursery rhyme by letting little ones touch and trace the shapes on the pages. It has playful illustrations to keep young children engaged. Recommended for ages 0 to 3, it costs $7.99.
Woodworks Nursery Rhymes: Wheels on the Bus comes in a little case complete with a handle so little ones can carry it around. The book is small enough for my baby to hold easily and the bright colors keep her engaged. Peek-a-Boo Sliders: Pets features different animals on each page along with a slider. As children move the slider, they watch the pets take part in an activity. For instance, they can move it to watch two kittens play with a ball of yarn or a hamster run on his wheel. Itsy Bitsy spider has popular nursery rhymes including This Little Piggy. The book has a faux wood look and has adorable illustrations. The pages have shapes inlaid so babies and toddlers can trace them as you read to keep them entertained.
My baby and I both love these books. The colors really pop off the pages and the artwork is eye-catching. She even brings the book to me so I can read them to her. The fun features keep her sitting still longer while I read. The books also appear durable so I do not worry she will tear them up. Since they combine reading and interactive play, I believe they help children develop an interest for reading.
