I can’t tell you how many times I have looked for ways to lose weight and be healthy without dieting, but it felt like I was cheating. To lose weight you have to diet, right? WRONG, there are ways to lose weight and be healthy without dieting because diets. It’s time to stop focusing on the diets and focus on what needs to happen, a lifestyle change!
Over the years I’ve learned at times, we have to find those little things that turn on our motivation to do big things. I can think of several little things that I have done in my life that have motivated me to do big things. The first thing that comes to mind is when I was about 19 years old, and I wanted to workout and get healthy. My intentions were great, but I often found myself coming up with excuses to avoid working out.
It wasn’t until I decided to push myself and do a half-hearted workout while watching TV while watching a show I liked. This workout was so half-hearted that I was doing it on my bed lol. I was obviously not serious, lol. However, that little exercise turned something on I didn’t know I had inside of it. I remember waking up the next morning, and my abs were a little sore, and I loved the way it felt to be sore from doing something for myself. Which lead to another day of working out at home, this time, was more serious. I wasn’t even on the bed, lol.
I pushed myself, and it felt good because I felt started to better and had tons more energy. I eventually started running and going to the gym daily. Those were the two places I felt like I could let go of anything stressful and be at peace. Unfortunately, I fell off the wagon because I let life get the best of me and it’s harder to get back up than I thought it was going to be. It took time, and a small yet fun workout session with my girls to point me in the right direction and it feels great.
Ways To Lose Weight and Be Healthy Without Dieting
Sometimes all we need is that little extra push in the right direction to find motivation inside ourselves. I know we are all different, so I wanted to share a few easy to lose weight and be healthy without dieting with you.
1.) Working out can be part of your social life – Rather than going to your friend’s house for coffee everyone morning to catch up on the latest gossip invite your friend to go for a walk. You can walk and talk, and you’ll still get all the gossip.
2.) Step outside of your comfort zone – Going outside of your comfort zone can be difficult at first, but once you reach your goal, you’ll be more willing to push yourself further and further each time.
3.) Reward yourself – Be sure to reward yourself each time to you reach your goal. You don’t have to reward yourself with food, grab yourself a new outfit or maybe even some cute workout clothes.
4.) Walk – When you sit down, and you feel board go for a walk or just go because you have a little time before the kids get home from school. Walking is an excellent way to relax and burn some extra calories.
5.) Clean out your cabinets – It’s time, pull up the trashcan and toss all your junk food. No emptier calories, focus on eating foods that fuel your body.
6.) Sleep – OMG, you have to go to bed every single night. Not getting enough sleep at night can contribute to weight gain, so it’s something to consider.
7.) Have a lazy girl at home workout – Come up with some exercises you can do at home while watching TV. The next time you’re catching your favorite show grab your yoga mat or just a blanket and workout while you watch TV.
8.) Use a fitness tracker – I love my fitness tracker! It helps me make better decisions when it comes to my health – walking, drinking water, and eating. There are even little competitions you can have with your friends for more motivation.
9.) Kick stress to the curb – I know, it’s easier said than done but stress often causes you to gain weight. It produces a hormone called cortisol wich often causes you to gain weight.
10.) Eat with chopsticks – I know they are not the easiest thing in the world to use but eating with chopsticks makes you not only eat slower, but you can pay better attention to you body telling you it’s full.
11.) Clean up your counters – Don’t leave food out where you can see it. Well, unless it’s something you can eat without feeling guilty. I leave oranges on my cabinet because I’m more likely to grab an orange when I walk into the room looking for a snack than a handful of chips.
12.) Follow fitness magazines, stars, brands and bloggers on social networks – Being social is okay, just be sure to follow fitness stars, brands, or bloggers. Be sure to check out their feeds. If I don’t want to work out, I’ll jump online to look for pictures of someone who works out all the time and before I know it I’m ready to start my workout.
13.) Don’t focus so much on your weight – Concentrate on getting healthy and feeling good before you get stressed because you are not dropping pounds as quickly as you like. Pay attention to how you feel – more energetic, less stressed, healthier, happier, etc.
14.) Find a workout you enjoy – Try new things, so you are not stuck doing something you don’t enjoy. You’ll more likely stay committed if it is something you enjoy – yoga, boxing, running, swimming, etc.
15.) No Alcohol – Whether you drink a beer after work or head out for a party to get drunk if you find yourself consuming alcohol, often you might consider cutting back. Not only is it not good for you, but alcohol also has empty calories, and it often makes one hungry. Plus, when we drink we don’t always make the best of choices and grabbing something unhealthy is entirely possible.
15.) Don’t just sit at your desk – If you have a desk job and are able, you might consider turning your sitting desk into a standing desk, so you are up on your feet rather than sitting all day. If you can’t turn your desk into a standing desk, try buying a bike that goes under your desk. It’s not the whole bike; just the peddles. You can peddle away, and nobody will ever know.
17.) Don’t body bash – Don’t be hard on yourself. Bashing on your body isn’t going to make anything easier or motivate. Think positive and you’ll get further.
18.) Round Up – If you are counting, calories round up. If you eat something with 53 calories, round it up to 60, it will help you keep better track and stop you from going over.
19.) Keep your house cleaner – Step up your cleaning game. Keep up with the laundry, sweep, mom, dust, etc. because it can help you burn calories without realizing it. You can also do things like calf raises while washing dishes or squats while folding laundry. Have fun, have a clean house and sneak in a little workout.
20.) Get rid of your fat clothing – Toss them! You have been thinking about it so do it, get rid of your fat clothing! Once you start losing weight get rid of them all and grab you something new. Not having any fat clothes is a great way to motivate yourself to stay fit.
21.) Eat at home – Rather than ordering out eat at home. You’ll likely make healthier choices and tempt yourself with the juicy hamburger over the salad. If you can’t make it home for lunch, be sure to pack yourself something healthy.
22.) Slow and steady wins the race – Remember you don’t have to lose weight quickly. It’s much more important to keep it off, and that may take some time, a lifestyle change. Remember slow and steady will win the race.
23.) Use social media and technology – Using technology can be used as a motivational tool or just to make things more fun. There are tons of apps, websites, and tools that can help you track your journey. You might also find motivation on Facebook. Yes, they have several weight loss groups you can join to find motivation from people who are on the same journey, challenges to take part in, etc.
24.) Dink more water and drink water before each meal – Before you eat to be sure and drink a bit of water first. It will help fill you up quicker. You should also be sure you are getting the recommended amount of water daily.
25.) Make drinking water easy & more fun – Can’t seem to get yourself to drink enough water daily? Consider grabbing yourself a water bottle you like, such as the “Sleek” Filtered Water Bottle so you can fill up whenever you need to and enjoy drinking water more. I know, it sounds crazy but remember the small changes we make can have huge impacts. Getting yourself a new water bottle you like can help encourage you to drink more water and because it has a filter you can fill it up quickly at home or on the go. You shouldn’t have any excuses for not drinking enough water daily with a 22 ounce “Sleek” Filtered Water Bottle, which comes in six different colors.
Having a the “Sleek” Filtered Water Bottle has helped my youngest daughter is drinking more water. She says she likes the water bottle so much because her favorite color is blue and nobody in her class has a water bottle with a filter to make their water taste better. I think the water bottle has made her the coolest kindergartener in her class, lol. Thankfully the water bottle comes with a filter capable of filtering up to 40 gallons of water, and is made from all natural, coconut-shell activated carbon that reduces the chlorine taste and odor in tap water.
I’m glad my new “Sleek” Filtered Water Bottle is helping Mattie drink more water so I don’t have to fight with her but DARN IT. It never fails the second I find something I like someone else needs it, and I never get it back. Which is okay this time because I ordered my very own “Sleek” Filtered Water Bottle but in my favorite color, PINK! I had to; I want a water bottle with filter too.
I ordered my “Sleek” Filtered Water Bottle in pink for only $7.99, and it’s BPA free and leak proof which is perfect for Mattie. The mouthpiece conveniently folds into the cap for added cleanliness, and the water bottle is top rack dishwasher safe! I guess my last water bottle wasn’t made using durable Eastman Tritan™ plastic like the “Sleek” Filtered Water Bottle because it melted in the dishwasher lol.
