5 Tips for Getting Your Home Ready for Summer

by Jenn

In a few short weeks, the nights will start to get shorter as the days get longer. The sun will come out bright and early and shine its wonderful rays down on us. The birds will resume their early morning chirping as they start their days and the flowers will bloom – seemingly just for us. Summer is such a wonderful time of the year. Follow these 5 tips for getting your home summer-ready.

  1. New Outdoor Furniture

As the days get warmer we will all be spending more time outdoors. Make sure you can do this comfortably with your family and friends by getting new outdoor furniture. You can save money on this by upcycling old furniture or trawling the preloved classifieds.

  1. Repaint Your Fence

A bright and shiny fence is a wonderful way to get those summer feelings. Make painting your wooden fence an activity for the entire family by assigning your kids tasks to do to help get the job done better and faster. If you’re feeling up to it and your neighborhood rules allow, consider letting your kids each pick a color and then paint a small section of slats in their chosen colors – this will make them feel valued and important. Check out Cedar Mountain Fence if you are considering installing a new fence.

  1. Clean Your Carpets

There is nothing worse at the end of a long cold winter than realizing your carpets are filthy from all those months of being subjected to dirty, muddy shoes. Woodard’s St. Louis carpet cleaning services can help you get your carpets summer-ready in no time. Dirty carpets are not only an eyesore but are also a health hazard because they harbor dust mites, allergens, and bacteria. Having clean carpets will improve the air quality in your home and go a long way in reducing hay fever episodes.

  1. Clear Out Gutters

I don’t know about you but my gutters have mini gardens growing in them by the end of winter – which sounds awful but I’m ashamed to say it’s true. So, if you haven’t felt like cleaning your gutters in the miserable wet weather then you are not alone! Summer is the perfect time to give them a spring clean, just remember to clean them as safely as possible to avoid unnecessary injuries. Keeping your gutters free from leaves and other debris can protect the foundations of your home from water damage, so cleaning them will save you money in the long run.

  1. Clean Your Windows

Nothing gives you a clearer outlook than clean windows, literally and figuratively. Get your windows cleaned by the professionals if you need to save time, if you don’t then go for it yourself because it is a great workout. Having clean windows is not just for show, although the added curb appeal is a bonus – keeping your windows clean will also prolong the life of the glass. Dirt gets into the pores of the glass and corrodes it from the outside in. You should ideally be cleaning your windows every six months which makes it easier, what I like to do is clean them after summer and winter – anyone can stick to that cleaning schedule.
