5 Ways to Stay Healthy on Vacation

by Jenn

Imagine a day at the beach or a leisurely walk along a forest trail while enjoying its cool breeze and natural surroundings. If you are more adventurous, perhaps you can fly to an exotic destination and enjoy its different sites, culture, food, and people. After spending so much time working, everyone deserves a vacation. Work is essential, but having breaks and slowing down is also necessary to maintain your health.

A study of 3,000 Canadian workers found that taking more paid vacation leave was positively associated with overall health and life satisfaction. Going on vacation is fun and relaxing, but you should never forget to keep yourself healthy. There are several ways to prioritize health while still having fun on vacation.

1. Go Grocery Shopping

Maybe you’re asking what grocery shopping has to do with a healthy vacation. However, going to the grocery store makes sense when you are vacationing. Shopping for healthy snacks and breakfast foods can stop you from going to the buffet every time hunger strikes.

Of course, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t enjoy the occasional buffet meal. Feel free to go out dining but keep moderation in mind. You can still treat yourself and be mindful of healthy choices.

When you visit the grocery store, spend time in the peripheries where fresh produce like fruits and vegetables are located. From there, you can pick up fruits, vegetables, protein, and other healthy snacks. It is essential to do this swiftly, so you don’t get the impulse to buy more than you need.

2. Vitamins

Going on vacation is the perfect way to relax, but sometimes you might not get a well-balanced diet. It would be best to complement your meals with a daily dose of vitamin supplements. Vitamins are portable and easy to travel with, and you don’t have to bring the entire bottle. Just bring enough for the duration of your vacation.

Vitamin supplements come in many forms, such as a pill or gummy form. Many people wonder if gummy vitamins are effective. They are a practical way to derive nutrients, especially if they contain the right ingredients. Unlike their pill counterparts, gummy vitamins are fun and colorful.

They will ensure that you are getting the necessary vitamins and minerals you need during your vacation. Make sure you choose the right gummy vitamins and look for sugar-free gummies with no artificial fillers. Be careful not to overeat them; they may look like candy but always follow the proper dosage. And course, don’t forget gummies are only supplements to a diet of fresh food while vacationing.

3. Stay Active

Vacation can be a pleasant diversion from your usual workday. A day at work may mean something different to different people. It may consist of a few hours of sitting in your office chair or sitting through hours of meetings.

Vacation gives you an excellent opportunity to be more active. Instead of using your hotel’s elevator, take the stairs instead and try to explore the area on foot rather than by car. Many vacation spots offer a lot of outdoor activities such as swimming or hiking. You can also try something different like scuba diving, surfing, or free diving.

If you’re the less adventurous type, you can have a leisurely walk on the beach. You can also have a quick swim in the pool or go for a short workout in your hotel’s gym. There are so many activities you can do during your vacation to stay fit while also enjoying time with friends and family.

4. Invest in a Fitness Tracker

Fitness trackers are a great tool you can use to monitor your physical health during your vacation. Fitness trackers come in a variety of brands and features you can customize according to your needs. They can monitor your heart rate, steps, and even the amount of sleep you receive. It is great to have one during your vacation so you can monitor your activities and health and make proper adjustments if necessary.

You don’t have to be that strict with your targets. Remember you are on vacation, and it’s also important to relax. You can look at your fitness tracker once in a while, but it should not stop you from enjoying your vacation activities. It is just there to help you stay updated about your health, but don’t forget to have fun.

5. Stay Hydrated

Vacations are fun and full of activities, so don’t forget to stay hydrated. On average, experts recommend at least 11 cups of water for women and 16 cups for men. Drinking water is essential because it regulates body temperature, delivers nutrients to the cells, keeps joints lubricated, and keeps vital organs functioning. Always bring water before leaving your hotel room to stay hydrated.

Stay Safe and Have Fun

Vacations can be less stressful with proper planning and preparations. It is an excellent opportunity to unwind, relax, and try unique activities. But always make sure to stay safe and healthy during your vacation.
