- Be flexible – Of course, you’ll have certain things you’re going to want to get done, places to visit and people to see, but aside from your commitments try to stay flexible.
- Gift of travel – Make your vacation a gift to the family by doing something special together. If you’re traveling by plane be sure to consider the fact that TSA might need to unwrap any gifts that are wrapped. The TSA recommends carrying any donations in a carry on and leaving them unwrapped.
- New family traditions – Since you’re away from home now is the time to create a new family tradition. Being away from home makes it hard to recreate traditions you typically do from home, be creative, have fun, get ideas from the kids, and create some new family traditions.
- Involve everyone & enjoy your time away – Before heading out on your holiday vacation, be sure and involve everyone in the planning process. Explain to the kids what you will be doing, who you will be visiting, etc. It will make things more fun if everyone feels like they’re involved. If you’re traveling to spend the holiday season with family and friends, be sure and enjoy your time with them. Don’t let the spending the holidays away from home consume you. Focus on what makes the holidays special – family, friends, giving, traveling, health, or potatoes soup family and friends.
- Focus on what the holiday is about – Focus on the actual meaning of Christmas. There is so much more to Christmas than the decoations and gifts.
