Trying to get the family together for dinner is sometimes a pretty difficult task to carry out. The kids get home and head to their rooms or hop on their gadgets. Mom and Dad catch up on work, bills, and schedules. Even the pets seem too busy chasing their tails or each other. That’s when Lee Kum Kee Sauces come to the rescue.  Creating a healthy and tasty dinner with Lee Kum Kee sauces is a foolproof way to get the table occupied.

Let the aroma of great food fill the house and it’s just a matter of time until everyone follows their noses. It is important to have some quality time as a family and dinnertime is the perfect setting for that. Gathering around the table, sharing the events of the day, plans for tomorrow, cute jokes and an awesome meal is healthy for every family, whatever kind of family it is.

Here are 6 tips to get the family together for dinner and enjoy some great conversation and company.

1.) Set a scheduled night

We all  have pretty busy lives and are always on the go it seems. Between work, school and keeping up with the home, it’s easy for the family to become distant. Grabbing gadgets, tablets, or the tv remote puts a damper on bonding. It is important to set aside some time to spend together as a family.

Schedule a night or two each week for a family dinner. Scheduling it into our already hectic lives will make it easier to follow through on. Repetition eventually develops into habit and will become a staple in each week’s schedule.

 2.) Get everyone involved

Like the saying goes, “A family that cooks together stays together,” or something like that. Getting everyone involved in preparing dinner leads to more and more bonding.

Lee Kum Kee sauces are an easy ingredient to add flavor, so even the smallest of the bunch can have a hand in cooking. Also, if the kids help to prepare the meal they will experience a sense of accomplishment. This makes it more likely that they’ll stick around for a dinner that they helped to prepare.

3.) Order out and bring it home

You don’t always have to prepare a huge home-cooked meal for the table every night. Getting together around the table is what we’re aiming for. Food is the way to get everyone there and sometimes taking a break from the kitchen is nice.

Though, take-out isn’t the most nutritious meal and should be a rare treat, it is still an effective step. Really, who doesn’t love some pizza or a spread of chinese food? Get everyone to set the table with some paper plates and plastic utensils and dig in. After everyone has chatted away and eaten up everything, keep the discussion alive during an easy clean up. It’s a wonderful way to have the family spend time together.

4.) Leave serious at the door

Dinner time is a great time for discussion and interaction, but it doesn’t have to be an interrogation. Serious topics, like money, trouble at school or work, or anything negative should be left for a more appropriate time and place. Make the mood light, fun and enjoyable so your family remembers the dinner as a positive good time.  If conversation is hard to get going, try starting it up with a game of  I Spy, or 21 questions to ignite some talking.

5.) Set a fun & relaxed mood

Just as we left serious at the door, we should bring a calm and relaxed mood to meal times as well. Light some candles, play some fun music and put out some fresh-cut flowers.

These all have a calming effect and add ambience. Relaxing at the table over some good food, like Kee Kum Lee Orange Chicken Stir Fry, is great after a strenuous day of school, work, or house work. It keeps the conversation light and happy and keeps the group happy and fed!

6.) Cook something healthy & fun

I make most of my dinners from scratch. I do love to use the pouches from Lee Kum Kee for dinners though. They are light, savory, easy to use and bring out the flavor of fresh ingredients. I made a wonderful Broccoli Beef bake using Lee Kum Kee Panda Brand Sauce for Broccoli Beef. It had lean beef, tons of vegetables, healthy rice and egg roll wrappers. Here is the recipe I created just for you, the reader!

It was a fun and healthy twist on a traditional Asian dish and was a perfect conversation starter. It was full of healthy ingredients and I unveiled that AFTER everyone had finished and complimented the chef. Whatever tactics I need to get this family to eat well I will use ’em!

Another great way to insure a family meal is to mention details about a possible yummy dessert afterward. Who can resist a tasty sweet treat? It definitely grabs the attention of my family and I admit that I am partial to cookies à la mode after dinner.

Talking about the day, playing a game, or just eating a good meal is a great way to bond.
