6 Ways to Have a Productive Day

by Jenn

We’ve all heard of people who can knock out their tasks first thing and handle things productively. At some point, we’ve all thought that this was a myth. Having a productive day can seem like an impossibility, but with some planning and forethought, and maybe a favorite black empowerment shirt that makes you feel fabulous, it’s entirely possible.

Have a Plan

One of the biggest ways to boost your productivity is to plan every step of the way. Whether you do this the night before, in the morning over breakfast, or plan out the whole week ahead, finding the perfect plan is key. When you know what you’re going to do, it’s easier to get started.

Some might argue that planning is the most important step to productivity. Start with a journal or planner, or simply write down what you want to get done for the day. You can even take it a step further and plan out each step that will get you closer to your goal. The following tips can also help when you incorporate them into your plan.

Don’t Oversleep

It’s so tempting to roll over and silence your morning alarm. This is especially true if you work from home or don’t have a hard-and-fast schedule for when you have to be working on your tasks. However, working up early is one of the best things you can do to boost your productivity.

You have a much better chance of staying focused right after you wake up. When you’ve had breakfast and you’re halfway through your coffee, your brain is likely to be more on-board with the whole productivity thing. That’s why waking up early is important, but not hitting the snooze button is even more important.

Start with Exercise

Even if you don’t particularly feel like it, doing yoga or other stretching exercises first thing in the morning can help you start your day off right. Exercising releases endorphins that will help keep you pumped up and focused on the task at hand.

Besides, stretching is important for your muscles, especially if you work a desk job or other sedentary lifestyle. Get those muscles stretched out, loose, and get the blood flowing again. You’ll feel more energized for sure.

Eat Breakfast with Your Coffee

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, no matter how much we hate hearing it. If you’re one of those people who have only coffee for breakfast each day, consider choosing a small, healthy meal along with your coffee.

Breakfast will give you energy and keep your focus from wandering. Plus, you’ll have time to breathe before starting your day. Don’t forget to use your favorite black pride mugs. Keeping your office hours as personalized as possible can help you feel more excited to work.

Prioritizing is difficult for some, but it’s essential if you want to make any sort of progress. The key to prioritizing is recognizing which tasks need to be finished first. This can be driven by something like deadlines or due dates, or it can simply be whichever project requires the most focus from you.

However, if you choose to organize your tasks, make sure that you put the largest and most important project first. The project with the closest deadline should be your priority in the morning, even if you eventually move on to other things when required.

Go to Bed Earlier

We know that this one can be just as much of a challenge as getting up early. Many of us dread going to bed when we know we have to wake up for work the next morning. After all, you could stay up and watch another episode of that show you’re binging, or you could spend another hour scrolling on your phone.

As difficult as it is, going to bed earlier is key to productivity. If you are better rested, you’ll be more capable of making decisions, staying focused, and avoiding that afternoon slump that tanks productivity like nothing else. Pamper yourself a little and head to bed earlier before days when you have more to do.

Finding the right blend of routine and expectations for a productive day can be challenging. However, with a little bit of planning and some self-care, you can have some of those amazingly productive ways as well!
