I know there are way more than 7 classic games to play but it’s all I could think of at the time. My brain was on overload, so if you would like to add any please leave us a comment about the games from the good old days.
You know there are all sorts of outdoor activities coming up too. So, it is important that we avoid dehydration. Recently, I was able to try the Contigo AUTOSEAL Gizmo Sip Water Bottle. It was perfect to take with us when my nieces and I were running around outside. My niece was even able to clip her Contigo Gizmo to her bike. And I remembered the classic schoolyard games I enjoyed, and now get to play this spring.
The Contigo AUTOSEAL Gizmo Water Bottle is BPA free and is really revolutionary. It uses AUTOSEAL technology that seals automatically between each sip. With this addition, the Gizmo Sip is 100% spill proof and leak proof. This means there is no worry of a drinking mess when you might want to enjoy some lemonade or fruit punch. Also, with drinks like lemonade and juice, cleaning the sticky mess can be a headache. The easy clean lid pivots open to make for easy and thorough cleaning and no residue left in the small spaces.
Springtime is a great time of the year and I always looked forward to it when I was young. I grew up in Southern New Mexico and I remember spending all day outside, drinking from the creek and being covered in every kind of dirt I could find. Too bad, I didn’t have the Contigo Gizmo Sip Water Bottle because there is no telling what kind of icky stuff I was ingesting from the creek water. With the Gizmo Sip Water Bottle and the AUTOSEAL technology, I wouldn’t have to worry about any bugs or dirt getting into my drink either. Because, when I was playing, there was no attention being paid to my bottle of water or juice that I had.
Reminiscing about my childhood drew me to remember all the games we played and enjoyed. When I was a kid, there weren’t all the gadgets that are available now. We had to rely mostly on our imagination and we were always outside. Do you remember Hopscotch or Freeze Tag? I do and that’s why I think we need to bring some of these classic schoolyard games back from the vault. Here are some games I remember as a kid. So, grab your kids, some friends, and family, and head out to enjoy these timeless games.
- Freeze Tag
Just like the traditional game of Tag, Freeze tag adds a few twists. The basic rules are easy; a group of people get together and choose a person to be “It.” The “It” person chases everyone else in the group and tries to tag them to “freeze” them. When a person has to “freeze” they can’t move until someone comes to tag them free. The goal of the game is for the “It” person to “freeze” all of the members of the group. With all the running, chaos, and excitement, it’s important to keep the Contigo Gizmo Sip Water Bottle near to keep hydrated.
- Kickball
If you are a competitive person, like myself, this is a great game for you. With as many as 30 players split into teams, the rules are a lot like baseball. A pitcher rolls an inflated ball to the kicker. After the kicker punts the ball, they then run to first base and continue to a safe base or get tagged out. This game is great because you don’t need anything but a bunch of people, a ball, and some room to run and catch and play. I loved kickball growing up and I think it’s about time I get my nieces and nephew together for a game.
- HopScotch
This is a favorite of mine as well and has been a playground staple for close to forever. Draw squares with chalk on the sidewalk, use a stick and draw lines in the dirt, or use some string on the grass to make a playing grid. You can play with as many squares as you like, it’s really up to you. The first person throws a beanbag, rock, or coin into a square and then hops on each square to retrieve the marker. The hopper can’t skip a square, touch a border, or step outside the right square. The first person to get through the course and get the last marker wins. It’s a simple game, and it gets kids active and can be played with others or alone. Now I see why it was so popular!
- Duck Duck Goose!
This game can be played outdoors, but it is a great option for rainy days as well. A group of players sits in a circle. One person is nominated to be “It” or the “Goose” and begins circling the group. While tapping each person’s head and naming them “duck” until the “It” person choose to tap a person and name them a “goose.” The person tapped as “goose” must chase the “it” around the circle and tag them before they get back to the open seat. If they are not successful, then they become “it” and the game continues. It’s a pretty simple game, but I remember the anticipation and excitement were out of this world.
- Simon Says
Again, this game can be played outside or indoors, but I always had more fun with a lot of room to run around. It can be played with two people, but the more the better. A person is chosen to be Simon, either randomly or pulling straws, etc. Simon then gives commands for the rest of the people to follow, but the key is to follow only commands preceded by the phrase “Simon says.” If s person follows a command without that phrase, they are out of the game and the last to follow orders correctly is the winner and the new Simon for the next game.
- Red Rover
I played this game every day for almost a year straight in school. Two teams face each other, holding hands in a line. One team calls over another player from the opposite team, saying “Red Rover Red Rover, send (name) over!” The person called has to run and try to break through the team’s linked hands. If they make it through, they take a player to their team. If they fail to break the link, they are then part of that team. Game continues until one team ends up with all the players.
- Hide And Seek
Definitely and all time classic and such a fun game to be played with just a couple of people to a whole group. To play is just as simple as the name. You have your “hiders” and your “seekers.” The “hiders” have a certain amount of time and the “seekers” then try to find where they have hidden. The game is over when all players are found, or “seekers” give up on finding them. Starting a new game can be done by simply switching “hiders” to “seekers” and vice versa.
Running and playing outside is a great way to spend the warm months of Springtime and Summer. It’s very important to stay hydrated during playtime as well. With the Contigo AUTOSEAL Gizmo Sip Water Bottle, kids and adults, can stay outside and be active without worrying about their drinks.
With the AUTOSEAL technology, only your drink comes out and no dirt or gunk can get in. And if you decide to drink those bright red juices or sticky lemonade, there isn’t any worry of spilling a sticky mess either. The lid locks and doesn’t leak and when the day is all done, the lid is easy to clean.
