Tips To Help Busy Moms Stick To Their Fitness Goals

by Jenn Brockman

WOW, school has already started, and I’m beginning to feel the craziness school brings kick in.  I’ve also skipped my workout, twice because things have been too crazy.  Needless to say, I don’t want to skip my workout, I’ve been doing so good on my journey to a healthier and happier me.  So I sat down this afternoon and did a little brainstorming as to how I can get everything was done and still fit in a workout and stay on track with my fitness goals even on the craziest of days.

Here’s how I plan to stay on track with my fitness goals while the back-to-school schedule sets in:

Walk the kids to school

I have to accept the fact that there will be days I will not be able to get my full workout in because of my kids schedules.  With four children all going different places at different times and taking part in various activities things get a little tricky, but while the weather is beautiful there is NO REASON I can’t walk my kids to school.  It’s only 1 miles there and back, and it’s healthier for me and my kids.  Until we face the cold winter months, we will be walking to school, and once it’s not 106 degrees at 3 pm I will walk to school to pick my kids up.

Cleaning burns calories

Remember you can workout while getting your daily chores done.  If you’re planning to clean the kitchen, do a little extra, clean the living room and do squat while you fold your clothing.  I’ve come up with several ways to turn my daily housework into part of my workout.

Plan my days

I’m a night owl if I allow myself to become one, which is why I need to be strict and plan my days.  If I don’t plan my days, I’ll be running on little to no sleep, which isn’t healthy for anyone.  Planning my days helps me get to bed at a decent hour and begin my day with the kids.  Plus, I’ll feel better so I can be a bigger and better part of their life before and after school.

Include your kids

Find ways you can include your children in your workout – walking to school, practice, playing at the park, or even using them as a weight, lol.  It’s healthier for everyone.

Music

Turn up the music while you clean or cook dinner, dancing is fun and helps burn the calories.  Plus, it makes you happy and moves your focus from the food to having a good time, especially if the kids join in.  Which means less munching while you are cooking, lol.

Parking

Don’t search for the closest parking spot.  Find the one that is furthest away and walk to the store.

Take the stairs

When you can take the stairs, your legs will love it.

Think of ways to be active while working

I sit at a desk and work, so finding things I can do to help me life a healthier lifestyle while working at my office is important if I plan to continue reaching my fitness goals.  There are several office workouts you can find online, stretches you can do, and other ways you can make sitting at your desk count.

Don’t skip meals or snacks

I’m going to be honest; skipping meals can be challenging for me if I don’t keep something around that is quick, easy, and nutritional like Zone Protein bars.

My sister and I grabbed a few boxes of Zone Protein bars while we were at Target, so we have an easy go-to snack for those crazy days all us moms tend to have, especially once the kids head back to school.   While we were in Target, my sister was checking out the nutritional value.  While I was looking for deodorant for my husband she was telling me how much protein, fiber, etc. was in each bar.   I knew if they were a snack approved by my sister they had to be okay because she will not buy just anything.  She’s the one who has helped me step up my fitness goals and learn how to live a healthier lifestyle.
