We’ve had a lot going on in our family the past few months so I wanted to get my sister-n-law something she would use, love, and know I thought about her when I put it together.  Usually, I would put together the Overloaded Sweet Oven Mitt foodie gift and bake, cook, or create something to place inside the mitt.  I can’t do that with my sister-n-law because she is like me and tons of other foodies that seem to have everything.  She would appreciate me making her something, but she’s one of my closest friends and I know she would rather be the one doing the creating.  Which is fine, it just means I have to think outside the box a little without going over my budget.

Honey & Honey Comb in Don Victor Honey JarAffordable Foodie Gift Idea

Unfortunately, foodies who seem to have everything can be difficult to buy gifts for according to my mom.   Every year she tells me how difficult Marley and I are to shop for because we have everything we need, and more so she doesn’t know what to get us.  I never really gave it much thought I just shrugged it off and told my mom she didn’t need to get me anything because our relationship wasn’t about gifts.  Now that I’m in her place, I understand what she means but I also think she was over thinking things because it’s I’m happier with a jar of honey with the honeycomb inside than I am a new pair of shoes, lol.

jenns blah blah blog travel bloggerYou might remember a few months ago my husband, and I went on a road trip to South Dakota to learn all about honey and the lovely bees responsible.  Yes, that’s me looking dorky as ever in the bee suite, lol.  Since our trip to South Dakota I’ve developed an even bigger love for honey and respect for those little bees who work hard to make it so been using honey more when I cook and bake but the honey I buy for that doesn’t ever have the honeycomb in it.

Don Victor HoneyWhile I was at Walmart, the other day I decided to see what kind of gift basket I could get together for my sister-n-law with only $20.  I grabbed a few familiar kitchen tools (cooking spoon, spatula, turkey baster and rubber spatula) because I was able to get them in her favorite color (red), you can’t have enough of them, and they’re budget friendly.  I noticed a super cute oven mitt and matching towel my sister-n-law would love.  Plus I could use it in place of the basket, save a little money and make things a bit more personal.  I make a beeline for the honey; it’s the perfect way to sweeten this gift up.  I grabbed Don Victor honey, which is located in the Hispanic aisle near the baking items at Walmart.

Don Victory Honey is an affordable, unique and elegant gift idea for not only the foodie in your life but anyone because you can use it for everything from sweetening your coffee, tea, substitute in your favorite cake recipe or even an ingredient in a beauty recipe.  It

1.) First I placed I placed the rubber spatula, cooking spoon, turkey baster, spatula and honey dipper inside the oven mitt.

Christmas Gift Ideas for Foodies2.) Tucked the towel in the back of the oven mitt so it was left hanging out just a tad.

Gift Ideas for Foodies3.) Last I placed the Don Victor Honey next to the oven mitt so I could snap a picture.  When I give the Overloaded Oven Mitt to my foodie sister-n-law, I will place it inside the mitt.

I’m happy with the results, and once everything is put together, it totally looks like my sister-n-law. My husband got home from work and noticed the oven mitt gift sitting on the counter and the first thing he said are, “That looks great babe.  Are you giving to Marley early, so she has a chance to use the oven mitt befoe the holidays are gone, lol.”  Of course, I’m going to give it to her early, lol.

Of course, I had to purchase a jar of Don Victor Honey for myself. I never seem to get honey with the honeycomb inside anymore, lol.  The Don Victor Honey taste AMAZING the honeycomb even better.  I can’t wait until the kids get home from school; I’m going to make the blueberry biscuits, add a little butter, then top with a piece of honeycomb.  Doesn’t that sound fabulous!

Honeycomb on plate

Did you know honeycomb is edible?  It certainly is, and it can be enjoyed in a variety of ways – baked or cooked in food, as a topping,

One of my favorite is on bread or even an English muffin.  Simply spread a little butter on hot bread.  Using a knife cut a small chunk of the honeycomb and spread it on your toasted bread, muffin,  or biscuit.  YUMMY!  You’ll likely have to mash the honeycomb a bit, but the heat softens it, and it smells fantastic!  You can also enjoy it with French toast, pancakes, hot biscuits and I have had honeycomb served with expensive cheeses and crackers at a few upscale restaurants.

What About Storing Honey with Honeycomb?

Remember honey should be stored at room temperature – kitchen counter, pantry, cabinet, etc.  Placing honey in the refrigerator accelerates the crystallization of honey that is a natural process of glucose sugar molecules aligning into crystals.  Crystallization is NOT an indicator of impurity, age, quality or spoilage.

If for some reason your honey crystallizes just place the jar of honey into warm water and stir until the crystals dissolve.  You can also place the jar of honey into nearly boiling water after it has been removed from heat.  To learn more be sure to follow Don Victor Honey on Facebook and visit their website.

That is a cute gift idea. I won a collection of different flavors of honey a while ago. I rarely use it. Should it be kept in the fridge or room temperature? also, it’s starting to crystallize. Is it still safe to eat?

Yes, it’s still good. Honey actually never goes bad. You can get rid of the crystals by setting the honey in hot water, they’ll melt back into honey. VERY COOL:)

Honey is a great gift idea if you are buying local and gifting local. Not only does it taste great, it also can work as an allergy medicine.
