Gosh, time goes by too fast. It’s hard to believe we are already talking about Valentine’s Day but here we are talking about Valentine’s Day.  With that being said, these baked red velvet donuts are a great way to celebrate Valentine’s Day! Anything made with love always taste better. True story, but they are not limited to just Valentine’s Day. You can bake these anytime of year, decorate accordingly. Plus, they are a GREAT way to create those special memories with the kids. They can help with the whole recipe or have a little fun and let them decorate their own donut before they eat it.

And, let’s not forget about our mom’s this Valentine’s Day and everyday! Regardless of how old you are show your mom some love!

Baked Red Velvet Donuts with Chocolate Frosting

Ingredients

  • Donuts:
  • 1 Box Red Velvet Cake Mix
  • 1 Cup Milk
  • ⅓ Cup Vegetable Oil
  • 1 Egg
  • Frosting:
  • 1 ½ Cups Powdered Sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons Cocoa Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Vanilla
  • 2-3 Tablespoons Milk

Instructions

Donuts:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  • Prepare donut pan by spraying with non-stick spray.
  • In a large bowl combine cake mix, milk, vegetable oil and egg.  Mix completely.
  • Place batter in piping bag and pipe into donut pan.
  • Bake for about 7 mins or until done.
  • Allow to cool some and remove from the pan.

Frosting:

  • In a small bowl combine powdered sugar, cocoa powder, vanilla and 2 tablespoons milk and mix completely.  If the mixture is too thick add more milk a little at a time until you get a smooth consistency. 
  • You can also warm up the frosting for about 20 seconds in the microwave to make it a little easier to place frosting on donuts.
  • Turn donuts upside down and dip the top of the donut into the frosting.
  • Place on parchment paper, add sprinkles and allow to sit for about 15 minutes.
  • Enjoy.
