Every Christmas season my mom takes all of the grand kids to her house for a Christmas craft weekend. <<<— how nice right?! This year one of the crafts we made were these amazingly easy and super cute candy cane reindeer. They. are. adorable! If you’re looking for something easy, cost efficient and fun to make this holiday season, give these little cuties a try. We had a 6, 9 and 10 year old making them (and me, old but not mature..lol) so that shows ya, if the kids can do it, so can you!
Candy Cane Reindeer!
If you’re looking for a fun Christmas craft to do with the kids or make so your child can give them out as gifts you can’t wrong with this fun Candy Cane Reindeer craft.
Here’s what you’re gonna need:
- Candy Canes
- Red smarties or M&Ms for noses
- White jelly beans for eyes
- Chocolate candy melts
- A black cookie pen or cookie icing for the eye balls
- Clear baggies for packing them up
Here’s what you do:
Line a couple baking sheets or your counter top with wax paper.
Get all of your candy canes pealed. If you break any, just set the aside with their pieces. You can heat up a frying pan and run the broken ends over it, it will melt the candy cane enough that you can stick it back together.
Melt your candy melts in a double boiler. Then pour them into a small mason jar. Set the mason jar either into a crock pot on low half full of water, or a pot of water on the stove set to low. That will keep your chocolate warm while you dip. ** Don’t get ANY water in your chocolate, it will seize up! Also do not over heat, it will separate. Keep the heat low and stir often.
Take one candy cane at a time and give it a dip about 3/4 of the way up. Shake off the excess chocolate and lay it down on your wax paper. Do the second candy cane the same and lay it right beside the first, pushing them together.
Add your eyes and nose and continue on till you have the desired amount.
Add the black dots to your eyes and wait until the candy canes are fully set.
Package them up and pass them out the friends and family. There will be smiles for miles! These little reindeer are way too cute not to share!!
