How To Check, Prevent and Treat Lice Infestations

by Jenn

Head lice are no joke, and they can infest even the cleanest of homes.  That’s right if someone in your household comes in contact with lice you too could have a life infestation in your home. Lice cannot fly or jump and they are spread through direct head-to-head contact with another person infested with lice. Lice are tiny and only attack humans so you don’t have to worry about your pets becoming infested with lice. Head lice feed on blood from our scalp and they will die if they are not on a host where they can eat.

Since the kids will be heading back to school shortly I thought it was the perfect time to talk about things we can do to check, prevent and treat lice infestations. Sadiy, school is where most children come into contact with lice.

How To Check, Prevent and Treat Lice Infestation

If you’ve ever had to deal with a lice infestation I’m sure you would agree that it can be stressful. My daughter got lice when she was little from daycare and oh my goodness it was horrible. Everyone ended up with lice, and it took nonstop mom power to take care of it. Rather than doing what I did I wanted to share a few faster and much easier ways to check, prevent and treat lice infestations.

Did you know that a female louse can lay up to 10 eggs each day?

Yes, and they lay their eggs about ¼ inch from the scalp.  When checking for head lice it’s important to pay close attention because they can be mistaken for dandruff.  Try to pull the debris off, if you can’t get it off it’s likely a lice egg because they are firmly attached to the hair shaft with a waterproof glue-like substance that you cannot get off by bruising.

Have you heard of super lice?

Well, super lice are lice that have a resistance to certain pesticide-base ingredients that have been used in some over-the-counter lice treatments for decades.  It’s also given over-the-counter lice treatments a bad rep when in fact there are good OTC products proven to be effective for eliminating super lice. Nothing will beat a professional lice removal expert getting rid of the pests though!

How To Check, Prevent and Treat Lice Infestation

Do you know how to check for lice infestation?

1.) When checking for lice you’ll want to be under a bright light and keep your eyes open for movement.  Lice will quickly travel away from any light.  Using your nit comb, start at your child’s scalp and slowly work towards the end of the hair.  Be sure to place a towel or something on your child’s shoulders just in case any lice falls off while you are combing through their hair.

2.) Be sure to check the comb after each stroke.  The adult lice are light brown and only the size of a sesame seed.  Nits can be white, yellow or brown.  You’ll want to look for eggs that are stuck to the shaft close to the escape which are about the size of a poppy seed.

3.) Be sure to check the back of the neck behind the ears and close to your child’s bangs on the crown of their head.  If the eggs are recently laid, they may be a transparent color so you will need to examine the hair closely. d

Dealing with a lice infestation isn’t fun. I have been lucky and have not had to deal with one in a little bit and now that I’m using Vamousse Lice Repellent & Nit Defense so I don’t have to because dealing with lice can be extremely stressful for the entire family. And unless your child has dark hair lice and nits can be difficult to spot. Trust me, when Vayda had lice it was extremely difficult to find all the nits because they blended in with her hair so well.

If you think your child might have been exposed to a lice infestation it’s important you know how to check for lice and treat and prevent an infestation.

Did you know it takes four to six weeks for itching from a lice infestation to start?

Yes, so if lice have been identified at your child’s school you can use Vamousse Life Defense Daily Shampoo.  Once your child has been exposed to lice it’s important to not only check for signs of life, but also switch to daily shampoo with lice killing benefits since lice are hard to spot.

Vamousse Lice Defense Daily Shampoo kills contracted super lice before detection and can replace your regular shampoo for ongoing treatment.  Use the shampoo for 10 to 14 days following your child’s exposure to lice.  You’ll also be happy to know this lice shampoo is pesticide free and made with eucalyptus. Daily shampoo from Vamousse is a great option if you are looking for something that kills lice and super lice.

Did you know that head lice can infest anyone’s hair?

Yes, your race, hygiene, age, gender and nationality have nothing to do with whether you get head lice.  Even the cleanest of classrooms and homes can be taken over by head lice.  If this happens you’ll want to fill the lice and eggs with Vamousse Lice Treatment.

Vamousse Lice Treatment has proven to kill eggs and lice including super lice.  Thanks to its foaming action it gets the lice and eggs where they like to hide.  You should only have to use this lice treatment once because it not only kills the lice but the eggs too so you don’t have to wait for them to hatch to treat again.  Vamousse Lice Treatment is pesticide free, easy to use and rinse, and can be used on adults and children 2 years or older, and it even smells great.

BE In The Know! How To Check, Prevent and Treat Lice Infestations

Do you know how to prevent lice infestation?

I have to admit, prevention is something I’ve spent a lot of time wondering about and until Vamousse I honestly didn’t know how I could prevent lice. Last year, I can’t count how many times my kids received a letter saying there was lice at the school. Thankfully, my kids never got lice but it could have happened very easily.

This year, my kids will be heading to school using Vamousse Lice Repellent and Nit Defence to help prevent a lice infestation. I don’t know a parent that wouldn’t want to use a leave in spray that repels lice or a lice defense daily shampoo. Well, unless you’ve never gone through the whole lice thing. In that case, take my word for preventative care is where it’s at because lice are not fun and if you don’t catch them right away it’s easy for everyone in the house or at school to have been exposed to lice. Whether you’ve been there done that and never want to do it again or have not experienced a lice infestation I cannot suggest trying Vamousse to help prevent your kids from a lice infestation.

Do you know how you can take steps to help prevent your child from becoming infested with lice?  Vamousse Lice Repellent & Nit Defense is a great choice and it’s super easy.  Before heading out for the day, have them spray the repellent in their hair for 8 hours of lice repelling.
