PBS Kids has just released the Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood: Fun Collection with fun, kid-friendly and filled with songs on March 13,2018. Daniel Tiger is a great modern take on the legacy of the Mr Roger’s Neighborhood show. This show is filled with simple songs, dance and music that will make your child move and feel joyous. The show is interactive throughout every episode, with Daniel asking simple questions. Daniel is a sweet tiger with very fun, kind friends and awesome family. You can find a prince, an owl, a cat and a baby in this show showing differences in personality and friendly in appearance for children 2-4 years.
I like that this show is interactive and gets some responses throughout the show from your child that are simple for them to want to engage. The songs are not just easy to learn but always carry a message that can apply to your child’s behavior or feelings. Overall, this DVD demonstrates great manners and acknowledgement of a child’s wish to sometimes decline food or be upset. It touches on special moments in a child’s life like a birthday or trying to make mom feel special and daily routines and importance of eating healthy veggies and allergies. This was what I liked best, as I feel allergies are something that a child can’t control and may feel ostracized or panicked about. The way poor Daniel got itchy and felt uncomfortable was very real and I am sure relatable to a few children out there with nut, egg, fruit or beef allergies.
Both my kids enjoy Daniel Tiger and this DVD was no exception. This was just perfect for them as they are currently obsessed with carrots and have started their own mini garden. The mix of animals and children is very entertaining for them. My kid’s favorite episode of course was Daniel’s birthday. They love anything birthday related and with cake in it. Their second favorite was a tie between the garden tasting and the Tiger’s family visit to the enchanted garden to pick strawberries. They loved to name the vegetables before Daniel did and loved to tell me whether they personally like it or not. They also are pushing me to take them strawberry picking as they want to see what Daniel did in person and explore and ask questions just like he did.
