In Dora in Wonderland your children are whisked away to the land where Alice once visited in the classic fairy tales. Dora is on an adventure to get to the queen’s tea party where her kitties are at. She keeps running into the white rabbit but he will not wait for them to follow so that she can get to her kitties. Throughout the adventure they are running from the Knave of Hearts who is played by everyone’s not-so-favorite character, Swiper.
Dora has to sail through the “giant trees” first on her adventure. She meets a special guest here who tells her all about special hats. They ride through the Wonder Sea in one of these special hats where they get to see some wonderful animals that are unique to the Wonder Sea. There is a unique elephant fish that I personally thought was the best but my children might have thought otherwise.
Once Dora had gone through the giant trees she meets and interesting cast of animal characters on the way to the “tiny animals.” They meet a disappearing cat but not one that is quite as controversial as the Cheshire cat that you see in other movies. I liked the more child friendly version and especially that this one was not smoking since that is something that I feel so strongly about.
They were going along on a path through the “forgetful forest” and had to say their names and repeat multiple statements which is great for younger children because they were able to learn something. I loved that by this point in the movie even my two year old was telling the interactive scenes that they were looking for the kitties and that they were going to the tea party. Throughout the movie you got to hear “Dora, Boots, Kitties, Party” which makes it fun for little ones.
While they were traveling to the queen’s tea party they got to see the roses being painted red. Instead of this being like the original Dora points out that white roses are just as beautiful the way that they are. The queen starts to get angry and the cards apologize. She was going to cut the flower heads but Dora stops her. The people want to make Dora queen but she declines so that she can be with her family. She then helps the queen change her evil ways.
In addition to Dora In Wonderland there is a bonus episode called Book Explorers as well. My girls enjoyed the bonus a lot but kept saying that they really loved the new movie. Plus the DVD came with a cute little paper doll set that my five year old fell in love with.
Dora the Explorer has long been a favorite in our house. With two little girls that are aged five and under, I have watched far more Dora than most moms. My oldest son was also very fond of Dora because it was before Diego had his own show when he first started watching so I have spent many years getting familiar with the series and the characters.
Dora has been a favorite of mine for a few simple reasons. For one I love that my children pick up some Spanish words through the show and for another I love that they continue to learn other things like sequencing and repetition. I find that DVDs that are fun to watch and have learning aspects make it much easier for me to allow them to watch them over and over again.
