2.) Season with salt and pepper.

3.) Pour can of Dr Pepper® over meat, cover, and cook on high 4-6 hours or low 8-10 hrs.

No homegating or tailgating event is complete without dessert! How does Cherry Dr Pepper® Brownies in Waffle Cone Cups with whipped cream and a cherry on top sound? Pretty darn awesome, right? I know they’re a HUGE hit at our house, especially now that college football season is here.

I love entertaining, and I look forward to the start of college football season because we have guests at our home often. So my sister and I get to spend a lot of time planning our gatherings and trying new recipes. There’s no better way to test out a new recipe than with a house full of college football loving, hungry men. Plus having tasty housegating/tailgating treats helps keep everyone a little calmer.

Game Day Greats from Kroger does amazing things, lol. Let’s face it, things can get a bit heated because everyone likes different teams. Sometimes I wonder if my neighbors can hear the guys yelling, lol. Last weekend my husband lost his voice from shouting so much, and he was alone lol.

My favorite thing about this recipe is how easy it is, but everyone seems to think I spend hours making them, lol. I guess they don’t stop to think about the fact that I used Dr Pepper® to give the brownies the fabulous taste. Shh, it’s our little secret. It’s nice to get a little extra recognition every now and again, right!

Cherry Dr Pepper® Brownies in Waffle Cone Cups

What you’ll need:

  • ¾ Cups Flour
  • ¼ Teaspoon Salt
  • ¼ Teaspoons Backing Soda
  • 1/3 cups of butter (softened)
  • 2/4 cups Sugar
  • 2 cups Chocolate Chips split in half (doesn’t need to be exact)
  • One large egg
  • One teaspoon of Vanilla
  • About 6 Ounces of Dr Pepper® (I honestly didn’t measure, I just put it in until I had the consistency I was looking for but it was about 6 ounces. Be sure to pay attention to the consistency and add the Dr Pepper® in a little at a time until you reach desired consistency)
  • 1 tablespoon Maraschino Cherry Juice
  • Black food coloring (optional, just makes them pretty)
  • 12 Waffle Cone cups (optional)
  • Whipped topping (optional)
  • Fresh Cherries (optional)

Let’s start making these AWESOME and super YUMMY Cherry Dr Pepper® Brownies:

1.) In a medium bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set it aside for later use.

2.) In a medium saucepan, melt the butter and sugar over medium low heat. Be sure to stir continuously. Right before it reaches a slight boil remove from heat and add 1 cup of chocolate chips.

3.) Move your chocolate mixture to a large mixing bowl, add egg, stir in vanilla, add flour mixture and mix well.

4.) Add the cherry juice and Dr Pepper® slowly, little by little, until you reach desired consistency.

5.) Add black food coloring to liking.

6.) Fold in the rest of the chocolate chips.

7.) Pour into your prepared regular 8×8 brownie pan, and bake 15 – 20 mins, or until toothpick done. I like to leave the brownies a little gooey in the middle because they’re SUPER yummy that way.

8.) Allow to cool and cut into small squares.
