What is the purpose of Earth Day? Earth Day is supposed to inspire the awareness, appreciation and spread knowledge for the earth and the environment. There are tons of ways to observe Earth Day, such as planting trees, recycling, and picking up trash at school or on the side of the road, simply making the world a cleaner places, taking care of the place we live on.
Where did Earth Day come from?
Earth Day came about back in the 1970s, founded by Gaylord Nelson his plan was to combine forces and promote ecology and encourage people to become knowledgeable of the growing problems, we are facing on the planet we all cherish.
Different ways you can go green without recycling.
There are awesome ways you can join the fun help our planet and GO GREEN! Re-use items, rather than trashing something because it has a chip in it or a tear in the sleeve re use it. If you have a bowl that has a crack in the side, don’t throw it away re-use it. An example, use the bowl in the garage to store all those nuts, screws and bolts lying all over.
We have just started to really get in the groove of recycling, but before I toss something into the bin I ask myself is there anything I can use this for, a flowerpot, storage of some sort? Let your children’s imaginations grow, we had a broken keyboard and rather than tossing it right away I allowed my children to have a hay day. Maybe the kids can have fun playing with it, you know kids can take the smallest of things and turn it into so much. It is great to see your children’s imaginations grow; amazing to watch them take something broken and turn it into a day of fun.
Donating is an awesome way to reuse or recycle something. It is not recycling but it’s very similar and a kind act. You are giving items to people who need them and will use and appreciate your kind act. You never know how your kind act will affect someone; sometimes the smallest things we do change people lives. Always think of donating as a form of recycling.
If you use too much of something, stop using so much. If you make a package of Spaghetti and there is always some that gets tossed, do not continue to toss it, reduce. Another form of reducing is going green, only buy green light bulbs you are reducing the amount of energy you are using, money you are spending and amount of bulbs you buy yearly. Use your scraps, rather than tossing them into the trash and since you cannot recycle it, use it. If you have a garden or flower bed, did you know that food scraps is one of the best natural fertilizers that you can find.
While recycling is extremely important, there are also alternative ways to recycle and reuse items that is extremely important and beneficial also. Just because we see no value in an item, does not mean that a child or someone else will not see the value and appreciate your kind act. I am all about recycling; however I think recycling can be done more than one way and have a larger impact on the people and their lives, as well as the earth. If it can be used for another purpose, help someone, or something why not get all that you can out of something before you toss it in the recycling bin.
Happy Earth Day, what are you doing to GO GREEN?
