If you haven’t tried this easy baked cake mix donut recipe, you are in for a surprise. Not only does it taste great, but it’s super easy and you can always add a little festivity to your donuts with food coloring or some fun toppings. I will be honest, if you decide to make baked cake mix donuts I do suggest a chocolate glaze, it’s not that the vanilla glaze recipe I am giving you isn’t good. It just isn’t one of my favorites, I’ll be honest chocolate is much better in my option.

However, I wanted to make a fun festive Halloween recipe and couldn’t go with orange glaze if I went with chocolate.

What makes Easy Baked Cake Mix Donuts a must try?

There are a number of reasons why one should try this easy baked cake mix donuts recipe!

Convenient

They are super easy and extremely convenient. Preparing cake mix donuts is simple, especially since you are using cake mix as the base. You don’t need to stress measuring out all the ingredients individually like you would if you were creating donuts from scratch. To make the process easier, knowing about the measurements like how many ounces in a cup is a more important step in baking.

Time saver

You can save serious time with the baked cake mix donuts recipe.  If you’ve ever made donuts from scratch, you know they can be time-consuming.  Worth it, yes, but you are lacking time. Using cake mix is a quick and efficient way to satisfy your family’s donut cravings without spending too much time in the kitchen.

Wide variety of flavors to choose from

I’m sure you already know, but cake mixes come in a wide variety of flavors, everything from your traditional vanilla cake mix, too chocolate to more adventurous flavors such as angel food cake or funfetti flavors.  Good news, you can use whatever flavor cake mix your heart desires for your baked cake mix donuts.

Endless customizing options

Oh, and one cannot forget about customization.  Whether you want to do something fun and festive by adding a little food coloring to the donut glaze, like I did with these Halloween donuts or you could even add a spider web. Don’t forget about sprinkles or dusting them with powdered sugar or a cinnamon sugar mixture or go all out with some fun and tasty toppings.

You can add vanilla or chocolate frosting, I prefer chocolate, but this time I used vanilla because I wanted to go with a Halloween themed donut.  Have fun, maybe even go with something super creative and tasty like a s’mores donut.  Oh, I think I’m going to have to add that to my to-do list.

The best part is the kitchen memories you can make

My favorite part, you can get everyone involved.  I tried to get my daughter to help me in the kitchen this time, but it’s proven to be trying the older she gets.  Yes, it does break my heart. She used to love spending time with me, now it’s like pulling teeth to get her to talk to me, oh the teen years are hard, and I don’t think they realize how badly it hurts their parents.  However, she is a good kid and coming into her independent self just fine, she needs more chores like cleaning up the kitchen after mom creates a mess, but we will save that for next time, lol.

On a serious note, if you can get the kids involved, build those memories because they get WAY too fast and man, one day you will look back and wish you had spent so much more time with them when they were young and still thought mom was the bomb.com.

Healthier option than store-bought donuts

Oh, and let’s not forget that this is a healthier option than your traditional fried donut.  Baking homemade donuts gives you more control over what ingredients you are using.  Even with cake mix donuts, just look at the ingredients on the cake mix.  You can reduce sugar and opt for healthier fats, experiment with whole grain flour, or even try adding some avocado.  This gives you the opportunity to enjoy a slightly healthier version of this indulgent treat.

Overall, trying to bake cake mix donuts can be a fun and tasty adventure. With its simplicity, versatility, and ability to cater to individual preferences, cake mix donuts make for a delightful treat that will bring joy to any occasion.

  • 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • food coloring

Instructions

Donuts

  • In a large bowl combine cake mix, milk, vegetable oil, egg and mix.

Glaze

  • Combine powdered sugar, milk and vanilla and mix until smooth.
  • Add food coloring if you'd like or you can even add cocoa powder to make a chocolate glaze.
  • I'm not going to lie, my favorite is using chocolate chips but if you want festive donuts the vanilla glaze is the best option in my option.
  • Once glaze is mixed, just dip your donuts in and set them on parchment paper to dry.
