I love pizza and it is National Pizza Month. I’m not ashamed to admit that we eat pizza at least once a week at my house. However I’m not a fan of buying pizza. Have you ever noticed that really good pizza is expensive? Weird huh? And cheap pizza is, well, hardly worthy of being called pizza. So I actually like to make my own. With the plethora of pizza crusts available these days, like Mama Mary’s® Pizza Crusts, it makes it super easy. When I make my own pizza I get to control what goes in it, I control the sauce, the cheese and the toppings, insuring that my family gets some healthy with their pizza. So in honor of National Pizza Month I am going to share with you one of my super simple pizza recipes.
Pepperoni Bacon Smiley Face Pizza
The Ingredients:
1 Mama Mary’s® 7” Thin and Crispy Gourmet Crusts
2 tablespoons Barilla® Spicy Marinara
1/2 mozzarella cheese (grated)
1 tablespoon Filipo Berio® Olive Oil
5 to 10 slices of Mama Mary’s® Pepperoni
1/4 cup bacon, crumbled
The Steps:
Take the pizza crust out of the package and put it on a foil lined baking sheet and brush it with olive oil (the crust, not the package). Preheat the oven to 450 degrees.
Spread the Spicy Marinara over the crust, so it is a thin layer. Top the sauce with the bacon. Sprinkle with the Mozzarella. Finally, top with the pepperoni. Once the pizza is ready to go, turn the oven down to 425 degrees and pop the pizza in for 7 to 10 minutes (9 in our oven made it perfect)
Handy tip: It’s important to put the bacon on before the cheese because in my experience if you put the bacon on last it has a tendency to fall off when you are eating.
So run on down to Walmart now and get the fixings for your own super easy pizza to celebrate National Pizza Month. What will you make?
As an added bonus, keep an eye out for the fold-out booklet with over $5 in coupons for Mama Mary’s and select other brands.
