Cooking dinner at home is not only better for your family’s health, but it’s better for your family in other ways. Kids who eat dinner with their families are less likely to be involved with things such as alcohol, tobacco, and other illegal drugs and activities. In my opinion that’s reason enough to eat together as a family. Making an effort to have regular family mealtimes is perfect for plenty of reasons, there are even some great dinner recipes that done take long to make, like the Italian Meatloaf recipe.
Here are a few of my favorite reasons to dinner at home matters.
5 Reasons Dinner At Home Matters
Bonding – Families who spend time eating dinner together regularly are more likely spend more time bonding, having a stronger relationship with one another. Taking the time to sit down for dinner with your family provides the entire family with the opportunity to bond.
Communication – In any relationship, communication is the key. Kids need open lines of communication too. Whether it’s informing the kids of dads new job, or breaking the news about a little brother or sister it’s important to keep everyone in the loop and up to date. A regular family dinner creates a positive environment where the family is comfortable to discuss things that are on their mind.
Stability – Kids need stability, and I don’t know about you but it feels for me as adult to have something in my life that give me the feeling of stability. Eating dinner as a family provides the entire family with a sense of stability and security. It’s a positive environment they can count on regardless of how old they are. I don’t know if our mealtime is your typically mealtime, but it’s a time I know my family will be together and happy.
Stress relief – Eating dinner with the family is healthy for adults too – I know it makes me feel less stressed anyway. I don’t know about you, but sitting down for a meal with my family is something I look forward to – it’s somewhat therapeutic. I can have the worst day of my life, and sit down to dinner with my family and suddenly I have left my stress behind me.
Save Money – Making meals at home often means more money in your pocket. Which means you have more money to spend on other things that are important to you and your family.
McCormick’s Italian Meatloaf
I was excited to try the Italian Meatloaf from McCormick.com because it’s nothing like the meatloaf I normally make. Honestly I did not think there was other ways to make meatloaf. I was wrong, and after it was all said and done the girls and I all agreed that the Italian Recipe from McCormick’s website was MUCH more flavorful than our traditional meatloaf.
It only took a little over an hour to make, and the majority of the time was it baking. My daughter Vayda wanted to help me make it so I walked her though the directions, and we tossed it in the oven. Once it had been in the oven for about 10 minutes you could smell the amazing seasons all throughout the house. The hardest part was waiting to taste our newest creation.
Check out how easy it was to make this flavorful Italian Meatloaf.
Ingredients for Italian Meatloaf Recipe
- 2 pounds ground beef
- ½ cups plain bread crumbs
- ¼ cups plus 1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese
- 4 teaspoons of my new favorite seasoning McCormick® Perfect Pinch® Seasoning, divided
- 1/2 teaspoon McCormick® Garlic Powder
- ½ teaspoon McCormick® Black Pepper
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 8 ounces of tomato sauce
Directions
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. In a large mixing bowl combine your ground beef, bread crumbs, ¼ cups of Parmesan cheese, egg, 2 teaspoons of the Italian seasoning and remaining seasonings, and mix together.
- Shape into a loaf on shallow baking pan. Vayda’s is a little odd-shaped, but I think she did amazing for her first time. Oh, yea especially since we didn’t have my meatloaf pan because that darn “I Didn’t Do It” took off with it. One day I am going to catch him in the act.
- Mix tomato sauce and remaining 2 teaspoons of Italian seasoning and pour over the top of your uncooked meatloaf.
- Bake for 55 to 60 minutes or until it is cooked all the way through. Sprinkle with a 1 tablespoon Parmesan cheese. Let stand for 5 minutes and serve.
You are going to love the Italian Meatloaf it’s loaded with flavor. Goes great with pasta, salad, or with a side of your favorite veggies, it’s easy to make, and doesn’t take long.
I’m sure you have heard of McCormick. They have been making American dinners MUCH more yummy since 1889. If anyone knows flavor it’s McCormick! Like many of you I am VERY familiar with the awesome McCormick seasons, but this was the first time I have used McCormick recipe, and it was amazing. Another first was using the McCormick Perfect Pinch Italian Seasoning. I was pleasantly surprised, and have used it several times since our meatloaf night.
McCormick Perfect Pinch Italian Seasoning is a classic combination of herbs like thyme, oregano, and basil that adds that perfect Italian kick to your meals. I have used it a few times since our meatloaf and it tastes amazing on chicken, pasta, and I even sprinkle it on sliced tomatoes for a healthy snack. If you haven’t tried Perfect Pinch Italian Seasoning yet I highly recommend giving it a whirl.
My girls loved the meatloaf so much that we are now having Meatloaf Wednesday, which I am a little upset about. I wanted Meatloaf Monday, it has a nice ring to it, but Vayda keeps telling me it has to be Wednesday. I guess for now we are going to keep it on Wednesday, but I am looking to sneak a Monday Meatloaf night in there so we can change it, lol. Monday Meatloaf, following by family movie night.
I recently posted this video on Instagram asking the girls what they thought about the Italian Meatloaf. They are so busy eating it’s hard for them to answer, but you will notice Vayda argue with me about which night we should have our Meatloaf night – Monday or Wednesday, lol.
Not spending hours making dinner for the girls and myself was great, and I was able to spend more time hanging out, laughing, watching movies, and acting crazy with my girls. It truly doesn’t get better than that. Thanks McCormick!!

As my children were growing up we had dinner every night at a set time and every one sat and ate together. Today people don’t think this is important any more. Sometimes this is the only time the family can find the time to get together therefore it should be a rule. maybe there would be less troubled children in the world if family time came first, even if it is only for an hour or two a day.
