Kid’s Academy recently introduced us to three of their educational children’s apps. The company specializes in apps that are tailored to helping Pre-K aged children learning and grow.
The first app was Kid’s Academy Preschool and Kindergarten Learning Kids Games for Toddlers. Created to confirm that learning is fun, this app uses games to develop skills in spelling, writing, and reading.
Our favorite part of this app is the frequent repetition as this is fantastic way to help children learn numbers and sequence. Animated flashcards teach letters and words and helpful hints allow your child to learn at their own pace while encouraging success. This app aligns with Kindergarten Reading Foundation skills of Common Core Standards and is suitable for children ages 4+.
The second app that we were introduced to was ABCs Alphabet Phonics & Montessori Learn to Read App for Toddlers. Suitable for children ages 4+ this app uses fun games to develop skills in spelling, writing, and reading.
Our absolute favorite part of this app is the award system that is included. Children are encouraged to continue learning and rewarded at every stage of the “game” through a star award system. Learning Games has two levels of difficulty and features dotted line letter tracing, writing a letter independently, and an instructor speaking in a soft, clear voice that teaches little ones how each letter sounds in a word.
It is also important to note that this app works to develop good handwriting skills by teaching children to write in uppercase and lowercase letters. In some preschool and perhaps kindergarten classes, children are only taught to write in uppercase letters which may prove detrimental in the future. While children are able to write their names in capital letters they often have difficulty identifying those same letters in lowercase. It is important to teach both at the same time.
The third app that we reviewed was Bingo ABCs Alphabet Phonics Song with Farm Animals Cards for Toddlers which features catchy tunes with simple lyrics that will have your kids (and you) singing along. Follow Bingo and his fun on the farm while learning popular kid songs and recording your children singing! Best Kids Songs is rated for children ages 4+.
Our favorite part of this app is the interactive features. From playing games with farm animal cards to recording your own stories this app is a hit among young and old alike.
Overall …
We enjoyed all three Kid’s Academy apps. The only negative is that we were only provided with the free version of the apps for review purposes. A more thorough review could be provided had we had the opportunity to review the full version of the apps; this should be considered for future reviews.
Kid’s Academy has created apps that work to provide educational resources while striving to make learning fun. It is this mom’s opinion that each app has accomplished this goal. The graphics are sleek and easily hold a child’s attention more so than other educational tools that we have utilized. The characters that we meet along the way are cute and rather fun and the background music and sounds are playful. If you have a preschooler or kindergartener in your life we recommend that you try the FREE version of these apps and then consider purchasing the FULL version for additional fun and learning! Each app is available through iTunes.
