I was checking out all the epic winter activities in Lake Placid, Adirondacks and it made me miss real winters.  I miss the frozen lakes and deep snow.  It’s without a doubt one of the most beautiful sites one will ever see.

Don’t get me wrong it snows here if you want to call it that lol.  If the kids are lucky, they have a few hours to play in it before it all melts.  However, this year makes me a liar because we have had a real winter.  I guess it’s the first time in a long time we have got that much snow in this area.  I’ve never seen it so white.  The kids loved it; I couldn’t get them to come inside.  Well, until their hands were freezing and they needed to warm up lol.

I used to hate winter, but being away from it and having children I want more snow for them to enjoy the things that I did as a child.  Snow’s so much fun, and one starts to miss it when they don’t have it like they used too, lol.  Darn it, I need a button that lets me pick what kind of day it’s going to be lol.  The way I see it is if it’s going to be cold, bring on the snow and let’s play in it.

Here are a few epic winter activities in Lake Placid Adirondacks.

1.) Sleigh Rides – How much fun would this be?  Imagine a winter sleigh ride under a warm blanket, drinking hot cocoa soaking up mother nature while being pulled by one of the most magnificent animals, a pair of Clydesdales.

2.) Horseback riding – I’m going to be you’d find me here first.  I love riding horses and so miss it in the snow.  Riding horses in the snow is so much fun and dependent upon the weather you might be able to enjoy a horseback ride too.  Just remember to dress warm, don’t forget the hat and gloves.

3.) Dog Sled Rides – How fun does that sound?  Head out for a dog sled ride because as soon as Mirro Lake freezer over the mushers set up shop.

4.) Check out the Olympic Sites of Lake Placid, Adirondacks – Yes, a little mountain town hosted the Olympics, not just once but twice.

5.) Ice skating – Have you ever been ice skating? I can honestly say I never have, but I would love to give it a try. I’m sure I’d fall, but that’s what makes it fun lol.

6.) Try bobsledding – OMG, I would probably do this, but I would be scared for sure.  You can start at the half-mile point and shoot down the trail.  Don’t worry you’ll have a professional driver.  I’d still hold on, lol.

7.) Let’s all ride on a snowmobile – I love snowmobiling, it’s an awesome way to see the beautiful world without getting stuck.  There is plenty of groomed trails and backcountry for riders to check out.  You can even visit the historic villages and spend the afternoon out with friends and family.

8.)  Toboggan Chute – Don’t miss the Lake Placid Toboggan Chute, thrill seekers paradise covered in ice which only means you go faster lol.  The Toboggan Chute is a 30’ high converted ski jump trestle that sends you down chutes covered in ice on Mirror Lake.  Don’t worry the lake is frozen and visitors can travel more than 1000 feet once they reach the lake.

9.) Ice climbing – I don’t know if I would do this, but I know plenty of people who would love the chance to go ice climbing in the Adirondacks.  If you’re into climbing, you’ll probably enjoy the 1,000-foot climb side walls.  If one isn’t too savvy at ice climbing be sure to take advantage of a two-hour lesson with a licensed guide.

10.) Skiing and snowboarding – Of course you can’t visit anywhere with snow without skiing right? There is the great terrain for everyone from the beginner to the expert.  You can also head out for some cross-country and telemark skiing in the Adirondacks if that is more your style.

11.) Put on some snowshoes – OMG, yes I would so love to go snowshoeing in the Adirondacks.  How fun would it be to grab a pair fo snowshoes and take off for a walk with more than 2,000 miles of walkable terrain to enjoy.

12.) Playing in the snow – Who can help but play in the snow?  I think this would be one of the first things I would do.

All those sounds like fun activities, some are not for me, but I know a lot of people who would enjoy them.  I would go for a horse ride or sleigh ride to start off my vacation.  What about you, what would your perfect snow day in Lake Placid look like, they want you to show them?
