For the last couple years I have struggled with establishing good eating habits and sticking with a fitness plan. I don’t intend to slack off, but I find myself losing focus when life gets too hectic. When the new year rolled around, I decided that to make 2018 different, I had to find something that held me accountable for the goals I’ve set. Luckily, I was given the opportunity to review the Healbe GoBE 2 Fitness Tracker, an all-in-one device that monitors many aspects of your health.
Like most fitness trackers, the Healbe GoBe 2 measures steps, heart rate, and sleep quality. However, it takes things to a whole new level by also monitoring your hydration levels, emotional state, and energy balance. By tracking all these things, it gives users the information they need to adjust their lifestyle habits.
GoBe 2 features a black plastic, adjustable wristband with a sensor on the bottom and a LED display on the top. The underside connects with the included charging dock using two small electrical contacts. The tracker is waterproof up to 3 meters and it has a 48 hour battery life.
The device is powered by a small button on the side and users can cycle through the metrics with subsequent presses. You can easily access the data gathered by the fitness tracker by downloading and registering through the Healbemobile app. The device syncs with the application to display the metrics collected so you can monitor your data. It is also compatible with most health apps including Google Fit and Apple Health.
Here is an overview of each main feature:
The GoBe 2 fitness tracker uses unique technology to measures the amount of fluid in the cells and determine the body’s normal hydration levels. It then compares the user’s current hydration level to their normal level. The device alerts the user of a low hydration level and indicates when it returns to normal. Users can also have the app remind them to drink.
GoBe 2 monitors the heart rate continuously and updates every 5 seconds. The app displays the average heart rate over 5 minute intervals in real numbers and graph form. The accuracy of this feature depends on the data entered into the user’s profile such as resting heart rate.
The sleep feature tracks the duration and quality of sleep each night and displays graphics in the app to show sleep times and anxiety levels. It indicates REM and NREM cycles as well changes in physical activity and heart rate during sleep. I have yet to test the sleep function because I find the band uncomfortable to sleep in.
GoBe 2 determines stress level based on the user’s heart rate and activity level. It also takes into consideration other personal health data such as sleep quality from the night before. When the device detects strong emotions such as love, fear, and anger, it vibrates and displays “Emotion.”
GoBe 2 tracks calories using FLOW technology and a special sensor that detects and analyzes changes to the glucose concentrations in the body. The sensor sends signals through the body’s tissue to measure fluid moving in and out of cells and an advanced algorithm analyzes the data.
Users often misunderstand this feature because they are unaware that it only tracks digested calories. Since food can take up to 72 hours to move through the digestive tract, it does not instantly detect calorie intake. Depending on the food eaten, it can take up to 8 hours to register the amount calories digested. To receive the best readings, users should wear the device no less than 12 to 18 hours a day. The app displays the difference between calories consumed and calories burned in whole numbers. This information also appears on a graph.
Setting up and syncing the GoBe 2 was a pretty simple process and the app has an easy-to-use interface. The device is a bit on the larger size and it was hard to find a comfortable fit, most likely because my wrists are very thin. You do have to ensure it fits tightly in order for the sensors to pick up measurements and I had trouble getting the strap snug enough. This is probably not an issue for most adults, however.
The hydration tracker is one of my favorite features because I have always had a tendency to forget to drink. On occasion, I have went most of the day without a beverage and didn’t even realize it. The GoBe 2 fitness tracker lets me know when I need to drink so I never have to worry about forgetting.
At first, I was skeptical about the calorie intake tracking. It didn’t seem possible that a device worn on the wrist could actually count calories. After a few days, I decided to manually count the calories consumed and burned and compare it to the data. I was surprised to see that though the numbers were not a perfect match, they were close enough that I could tell whether I was burning enough calories each day.
Overall, I am impressed with the GoBe 2 fitness tracker. Though there are some slight issues as far as fit goes, it is great for monitoring my health. I have noticed that the more I wear it, the more accurate and consistent the data is. This device data is perfect for athletes, users wanting to get into shape, or people simply wanting to improve their health.
