I have to agree with my kids, brushing your teeth can be a tad bit boring. I mean it’s only two minutes, but without something fun, those two minutes seems to drag on and on. No wonder my kids don’t want to brush their teeth unless we do something fun while we brush. Lucky for us parents there are ways to make brushing your teeth fun for everyone, even mom, and dad. Hey, it’s totally okay for mom and dad to have fun brushing too. It makes those two minutes fly by!
Here are a few of the ways we try to make brushing fun for our children.
1.) The coolest of the cool
Whoever tells you that having the cool toothbrush doesn’t matter is WRONG! Having the coolest of the cool toothbrushes makes brushing your teeth much better.
2.) Rewards, we all love rewards
Do you reward our kids for brushing their teeth without being told? We have a chart, even time the kids remember to brush their teeth without being told they get to add a stick to their chart. When the chart is full, they get a small toy from the store or a surprise mom and dad pick. Sometimes ti’s just a cruise up to the mountain together which they love.
3.) Singing inside your mouth
My daughter named this one lol. When she was little, she came up to my husband, and I all excited and wanted to show us how she could sing in her mouth, lol. It was so darn cute, and it’s turned into something fun to do while we brush. Just remember the mouth needs to stay closed at all times, lol.
4.) Brushing is a family affair
I have bene brushing with my kids for a long time, and they love it. Every night they come and tell me it’s time to get our brushing on. It’s either because they like having me around, or it’s because I’m the mom with the cool app on her phone so they can brush and dance. I like to think it’s because I’m awesome but who knows lol.
5.) Did someone say dance?
Yup, dancing, and brushing are the best way to make brushing fun and to dance you need some killer beats which you can find on Colgate’s award-winning app! If you haven’t downloaded the Colgate Bright Smiles, Bright Futures app on Android and iOS yet, be sure and check it out. I’m going to bet you and the kids will love it.
If you have been reading for a while, you might remember us sharing information about the Colgate Bright Smiles, Bright Futures program. We shared Tips & Tricks To Keep Kids Brushing Their Teeth with you about a year ago and we talked about the Colgate Bright Smiles, Bright Futures program as well as their fabulous app that is still doing great!
The Colgate Bright Smiles, app is AWESOME! Seriously, my girls fell in love with it about a year ago. It’s one of the few apps that has stayed on my phone which is fine with me because this app is worth keeping on my device until all my kids are older.
The “My Bright Smile” app is free and geared toward children ages 4-6 with five games, including excellent games “Visit the Dentist” “Brush the Teeth” “Swipe the Sweets” and then my personal favorite two-minute song that makes brushing fun for everyone. Even mom loves brushing with the kids.
I still brush my teeth with my kids because I want to be a good mom and lead by example don’t you know? Well, okay I’m going, being honest. Not only do I want to set a good example gut brushing with the kids is more fun because they jam out while they brush. Since I started brushing with them and the Colgate Bright Smiles, Bright Futures app the kids and I are having more fun brushing. There are days when we even have a race to the bathroom to see who gets the royal brushing throne during our nightly brushing. We started the brushing throne about three months ago lol. It’s corny I know, but I can promise you one thing time flies when I brush my teeth with the girls. Without them gosh, that two minutes would drag on and on. Why do that when I can spend some time with the kids, jam out, dance around, and brush our teeth. Oh, and just so you know it takes some serious skills to dance and brush your teeth. Don’t’ believe me? Download Colgate Bright Smiles, Bright Futures and check it out for yourself.
