Inglesina was founded by Liviano Tomasi, who came up with the idea in 1963, in the month of December. It was then when Tomasi thought why shouldn’t anyone be able to own an elegant carriage that the British people owned? The word Inglesina is the Italian word for “Little English Girl.” Especially during Christmas time who wouldn’t love a brand new product for those new babies? 53 years has passed by and yet Inglesina is still going strong with their prams and newer traditional strollers.
We got to test out the Inglesina Zippy Light lightweight stroller in Desert Dune. I really love that it is an umbrella stroller, with the features of a full sized stroller. It is super compact, with a compact fold. The fabric is super plush and comfortable all around, my best feature is the extendable canopy plus the sun visor! Makes nap time easier and more comfortable all around. In addition, the Zippy Light comes with a cup holder, baby bumper bar and a rain cover! Now that’s a great deal with their listed price! While assembly is super easy it shouldn’t take more than 5 minutes top. You only have to assemble the back wheels, canopy, bumper bar and cup holder. While using the Zippy Light I found it pretty easy to maneuver, has swivel wheels for easy terrain and lock offs to keep for long straight walks. Flip flop type friendly brakes, which is a must for moms and dads who wear sandals for a light stroll or to the beach. And for rainy days the Zippy Light also comes with a rain cover! Which I absolutely love, if you leave your stroller outside in the shade and forget that one day you never put it away. The Zippy Light has a weight capacity of 55 lbs and only weights 15 lbs total.
Talking now about the canopy, the canopy is huge! You have an original 2 big panels, then you unzip the hidden panel for extra coverage from the morning or evening sun. Now Inglesina has outdone themselves and created a sun visor in addition! A small front panel extender for when you have the stroller seat reclined all the way back, to make sure baby is covered well! I only don’t get why the the 3rd panel has a different material then the rest of the canopy, I would love to see a mesh lining instead! Now the Zippy Light also comes with a peak-a-boo window plus a magnetic closure, so not like those velcro type ones that may wake baby. My other drawback is I hope Inglesina will relocate the peak-a-boo window from the very bottom where even in the most reclined position you cannot see baby well enough, so I would love to see what they will do about that!
The storage basket is pretty big for a lightweight stroller, you can definitely throw in a huge diaper bag inside, and you can access it better from the front and sides, not really the back, since you have that lock off section to secure the stroller. The basket isn’t all the way towards the floor so you can really get some heavy items in without fear of breakage. The Inglesina also comes with 1 cup holder located in the back. Now I love that they made the cup holder pretty much closed all around so your drink will not fall! I would love to see a child’s tray as an accessory in the future. Zippy Lights wheels have all wheel suspension to help absorb bumps and holes or rugged terrain while on the go. Also included is a baby bumper bar (not a toddler tray), and I love that it doesn’t have foam so you don’t have to worry about your little one munching away on it!
The whole stroller itself has 3 recline positions, upright, half recline and a full recline. Now I would like for Inglesina to make a 4th recline between the up most recline and the half recline as there is deep drop on the seat. The Zippy Light has a 1 hand recline adjustable seat, a 5 point padded harness and 3 harness level slot. As an umbrella stroller, the Zippy Light is very easy to maneuver, my only disappointment, is that I am not sure if it is the style or if it is not made right, when you are pushing the stroller the handle, as the stroller folds the handle becomes “3” sections to accommodate for a compact fold, which when you are pushing the stroller you cannot hold/push with one hand as the handle bar will start folding, so I would like a for a way for Inglesina to make sure the handle stays firm and not fold up.
When storing or setting up the stroller you can do it with 1 hand when needed, but 2 would be better. When opening the stroller there is a lever on the right side (parents right side) you pull up and then just open the stroller, after you get the 2 bottom sections attached near the leg part, you have to use that manual foot lock in the back of the stroller by pressing down with your foot to lock it. Now closing the stroller, in the same part where the manual foot lock part is there are 2 directions, #1 press down on the red button, and #2 while pressing down pull the lever firmly up and the stroller should lock up. And best of all? The Zippy Light has a free standing form and is super compact “rectangle shape” form that will fit in a small sedan trunk!
Overall I really love the Zippy Light lightweight umbrella stroller, and what I love is if you have a Maxi Cosi, Cybex and Nuna infant car seat you can buy adapters to make the Zippy Light into a travel system! My few main concerns is about the handle bar, the recline level, also when the stroller folds, the legs that hold up the stroller is what attaches to the frame of the stroller, so if it gets damaged it will render the stroller useless, so maybe adding rubber or a cover may help. I would love to also see a toddler tray and a second cup holder part for parents, as we all know we need more than one cup for our drinks. And changing the extra panel to a different material or a mesh window, as well as moving the peak-a-boo window up higher.
