Today’s technology is here to stay and our children are learning basic skills through computers but most are not a touch and feel type of experience until now. Osmo Gaming System is the newest way for our children to learn with hands-on play on an iPad.
I was given the opportunity to review the Osmo Gaming System through Best Buy and have been compensated in the form of a Best Buy gift card and/or received the product/service at a reduced price or for free.
When I seen the Osmo Gaming System, I thought immediately of my grandchildren and how much fun they would have playing the games and how easily they could learn. My grandkids ages 9, 6 and even the two year old were excited when they seen the game and the variation to choose from and play.
The Osmo Gaming system offers a variety of games for the youngsters to learn from and play. Included are Words that enables your child to learn spelling. Child can play with his/her friends and being the first to guess and spell out the onscreen hidden word by tossing down reallife letters faster than their friends. A related picture gives the clue.
Tangram game encourages puzzle solving by arranging wooden puzzle pieces into matching onscreen shapes. Play with your child or challenge yourself to more advanced levels with Osmo acting as your mentor by lighting up with each victory.
Newton works using your creativity with inventive ordinary objects such as a handdrawn picture, mom’s glasses, dad’s pen or anything around you to guide falling onscreen balls into targeted zones. Play Masterpiece to boost your drawing skills. Pick any image from the camera, curated gallery or integrated web search and Masterpiece will transform it into easytofollow lines and help you draw it to perfection. You can then share a magical timelapse video of your creation with your friends and family. It is genius that you can pick a picture and physically recreate it onto paper.
The Numbers game teaches addition and counting. With a counting, addition, concatenation and multiplication mode, there is a challenge for everybody. As kids get more confident in one mode, they can move onto the next one, allowing them to learn at their own pace.
Your child can enjoy interactive play that encourages creative thinking and social interaction using the latest technology which kids seem to really enjoy.
Tangram game is placing puzzle pieces down to form the picture on the screen. Every time a correct piece is placed in the correct position, there is a tune that plays to let you know it is correct and the piece lights up on the screen. When my grandkids played it, they had a ball discovering how the game worked. They were so engrossed they wanted to play the Numbers game and the Newton.
I personally think using this type of technology is not only simple for parents but intriguing for the kids. It puts a challenge in front of them and while they are working various games they are learning. Of course kids don’t see it as learning they see it as playing games on the iPad. Osmo was designed for children 5 thru 12 but I think parents could have fun solving the problems and completing the puzzles. Even though Osmo Gaming System has an age rating, it is interesting for my two year old grandson. He liked playing with the numbers and letters and seeing the results on the iPad screen. Seeing that means even the younger kids can benefit from playing the games.
You can solve math problems with the Numbers game. A challenge appears when the extra green number shows up and will automatically add itself. With the multiplication part you can multiply numbers by placing tiles together and every time you answer correctly you get a score. The idea is to get a high score. The games are designed to encourage creativity, solving problems and dealing with social intelligence skills. Each Osmo Gaming System comes with a mirror, sturdy base that is easily adjustable, game pieces and 5 game apps downloadable free from the Apple App store. IPad is not included.
All in all, I think there is no better way for a child to learn than physically interacting with a game. Even though it is summer, why not give your child a huge advantage by getting the Osmo Gaming System as a special gift before school starts. It will keep them actively engaged for hours on end and they will go back to school much smarter than when the left for summer vacation.
