It’s officially summer. Time for swimming and tanning and yard work and sun burns and chlorine and sweat. Oh, did I just make you long for winter? I have to confess that I love winter way more than summer, although winter does have its own challenges (hello severely dry and chapped hands). But we’re talking about summer. During summer the challenge (at least for me) is making sure I feel clean while I’m enjoying the outdoors. It also doesn’t help that I have extremely sensitive skin and have to be very careful about what soaps I use, especially on my face. But one of the ways I manage is a refreshing natural salt scrub that I make myself at home using this simple recipe.
1/2 cup coconut oil
1 cup coarse salt (I use Epsom salt)
25 drops of Lemongrass essential oil
25 drops of Peppermint essential oil
Mint (fresh or dried)
Melt the coconut oil in the microwave, about 30 seconds is usually all it takes. Mix in the salt and essential oil. Finely chop up the mint and mix it in. Let it sit (you can put it in the fridge) long enough for the coconut oil to set back up. You should now have a paste consistency.
And that’s it. Next time you shower rub a little on your skin and then wash it off to leave your skin feeling clean and refreshed
Note: Lemongrass essential oil should not be used on children or by pregnant women. Lemon is pictured but was not used in the scrub.
