Macmillan Collector’s Library #Gift Guide
My mother loved to read. Although she had many books on hand, her favorite was a collection of books written by P. G. Wodehouse. At one point she had an extensive collection, but unfortunately, over time, the collection was broken down. To my knowledge, I am the sole possessor of the last remaining book in her collection. Such a sad state.
Like my mother, I also like to read. However, my collection of books on hand are an assortment of many authors, different sized books, and a combination of both paper back and hard cover books. There is no uniformity at all in their appearance. That’s why I love Macmillan Collector’s Library, as each book cover has a similar appearance.
I received three books for the purpose of this review through the generosity of Macmillan Publishers International Limited.
I am not a pack rat, but I am a collector of various items. While some treasure the Precious Moments figurines, or Cherished Teddy’s, I have opted to collect Lilliput Lane Cottages. However, I just read that the Lilliput Lane factory is closing down, so the cottages still in existence will skyrocket in price for the avid collector like myself in the future. Unlike the anticipated skyrocketing in price for cottages for my Liliput Lane collection, the books from Macmillan Collector’s Library are quite reasonable. Looking through their spring 2016 brochure, and the company’s website, the most expensive book in their collection is a mere $14.99. No where have I found a hard cover book, especially ones of this quality, for this small price. At the present time, Macmillan Collector’s Library consists of almost 200 titles including fiction, non-fiction, anthologies, poetry and children’s classics. Best selling authors include: Charles Dickens, Jane Austen, Rudyard Kipling and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Macmillan also has a small but growing selection of copyrighted 20th century authors, in addition to their public domain authors. Furthermore, Macmillan is adding more books to their library on a regular basis.
Aside from the literacy material you can find through Macmillan, what I appreciate about the Macmillan Collector’s Library is the high quality standard that they maintain such as cloth hardcovers with wraparound jackets secured with wafers/gilt edges/ribbon marker head and tail bands. Each book is 3.7” wide x 5.9” high, which makes them small enough to place in your pocket, bag, or luggage for easy carrying. Further, these magnificent styled books look absolutely amazing on your bookshelf, or mantel.
