For the past few weeks, I have been testing out the Motorola Moto X from Verizon Wireless. If you follow my blog you already know how much I love Verizon, I have been and always will be a loyal Verizon Wireless customer. From the best gadgets to outstanding customer service Verizon does it best in my opinion. Moto X Review – The Smartest of Smartphones #VZWBuzz
I’m going to tell you right out of the gate this is a great phone. It’s been a while since I have used anything Android, to be honest. It was nice to have the opportunity to have such an excellent device welcome me back into the world of Android devices. This device has a whole lot going for it.
It’s been a great device for not only me but my husband and kids as well. My husband likes new smartphones almost as much as I do. My kids jump at the chance to play games, take pictures, and watch movies on my device. Honestly, I don’t know what I would do without my device on long shopping trips. My daughter loves to play games, and it helps me keep my sanity lol. Honestly, if a phone cannot keep up with my family and me I honestly have no use for it. I’m a mom, with a large family, and need a device that is able to keep up with all of us. The Moto X did a great job keeping up with all of us, and I didn’t have to put it on the charger until I went to bed for the night – great battery life!
We have a lot to cover, so I’m going to get started from the top!
Moto X Is Made In The U.S.A.
The Moto X is made in the U.S.A, which is GREAT! When I found out the Moto X was the first, and the only smartphone made in the U.S.A it made me like it that much more because that means more jobs here in the U.S.A. I will support anything that helps provide American with jobs.
Design Your Own Device
Have you ever wanted to design your own phone? Good news, the Moto X can be customized using the Moto Maker. Choose from 19 different colors for the back, 2 colors for the front, 7 accent colors, add a signature (I named my phone, lol), choose your memory size, add a name for greeting that will pop up when you turn your device on, you can even choose to have it come already synced with your Google account. You can even add matching, or if you’re like me mismatch accessories to go with your Moto X. There is truly something for everyone with more than 2,000 combinations to choose from. The Moto Maker runs smoothly unless you end with too many browsers open trying out different designs. Yes, it happened to me.
After tons of open browsers, and about 100 different combinations I decided to go with yellow and black. I wanted to go with pink, but there is something about the bright yellow – I had to try it. The phone is just as beautiful in person. I love the look and feel of this device.
If you want to see the Moto Maker in action watch this YouTube video by Verizon.
On-Screen With The Motorola Moto X
From the customized look to the text and graphics everything looks and runs smoothly, and the speaker JAMS! It is loud and clear enough to use hands-free while chatting, or jamming to some tunes while cooking dinner. My husband was watching a YouTube video on the Moto X, and his exact words were “dang babe this phone jams.” We have used the device for everything – YouTube, games, music, movies, talking, etc. and couldn’t be happier with the sound!
Moto X’s Magic Words – Okay, Google Now!
Well if it being made in the U.S.A, and customizable isn’t enough, try saying the magic words – “Okay Google Now.” The Moto X is ready when you are, thanks to its “Touchless Controls,” which allows Moto X owners to operate the phone without touching it. Users can train the phone to learn their voice. I spent a lot of time playing with the Touchless Controls.
I was laying in bed the other night and forgot to set my alarm. It was one of those nights I just wanted to go to sleep, getting up out of bed didn’t seem possible, lol. My husband reminded me that I had a smartphone, that hopefully didn’t forget the magic words like I forgot about using them. Anyway, I said, “Okay Google Now, wake me up at 7 in the morning.” You’re never going to guess what happened. It was 7 am sharp when I woke up thanks to the alarm on my phone! I love these Touchless Controls.
Sure voice commands have been around for years, but they’ve required some type of physical action to activate the controls. The Moto X is listening for the three magic words – “Okay Google Now” all the time. I think I spent more time talking to my Moto X than my husband for the first few days I had it, lol. Not really, but it is pretty neat.
Moto X owners can get directions, send emails, set reminders, schedule meetings, ask questions, play music, open apps, set alarms, search the web, place calls, send text messages, and I’m sure there is something I am missing.
Updates are delivered discreetly to your devices locked screen. See everything you need by glancing at your device. There are not any annoying beeps, everything quietly appears, so you don’t have to be that person who’s always looking at their device so they don’t miss anything important. When you see something that you want to read, touch the notification icon and the details will appear on the top and bottom of your device’s screen. You can then drag the icon up, and the app which it is associated with will open up. When you’re done drag the icon to the right or left and BAM, like magic it will all go away.
The Moto X is one super smart device – it even knows when you’re driving. When you’re on the road, it can read out who is calling or texting so you can focus on driving. Not only does it recognize when you’re driving, but the Moto X knows when you shouldn’t be bothered – sleeping, and meetings too. You can schedule your phone, so it knows when you are sleeping, or don’t want to be bothered. The Moto X can be set to only allow important calls to come through during resting hours in case there is an emergency. The Moto X also realizes you are in a meeting by checking your calendar. If it notices you have a meeting scheduled it will automatically silence while you’re in the meeting. I wish I would have had this when I was working, lol. It never failed I was always the one who forgot to turn off her phone’s ringer.
Be sure to check out Motorola Connect – it’s awesome. Obviously, I’m on the computer a lot. It sure would be convenient if there were a way for me to see who was calling, read, and respond to text messages from my computer. Well, thanks to Motorola connect I can see who’s calling, read and respond to text messages from my computer! This phone just keeps getting better and better, doesn’t it?
The Moto X Camera
I am going, to be honest, I was a little worried about the camera. I take a lot of pictures with my phone, and like anyone else, want good images. I was presently surprised with how well my pictures came out. I took a few pictures with my Lumia 928 and my Moto X so you could see the difference. The Lumia 928 obviously takes great pictures, but I think it’s safe to say the Moto X takes nice pictures as well.
I want to hug whoever thought of the wrist gesture to open the Moto X’s camera, which can be done even from a lock-screen. Its two flicks of the wrist, and you’re ready to snap some shots by touching anywhere on the screen. It makes taking pictures easy as 1-2-3, seriously. My daughter loves the two-megapixel front-facing camera, she’s huge on the selfie’s, lol.
- Front Facing HD Camera
- 10MP with 19:0 aspect ration
- Auto HDR
- Photo burst
- 1080 HD video at 30fps with slow motion
- 4x digital zoom
- Tap to focus
Enjoy up to 24 hours of usage time, or up to 10 days (YES DAYS) of standby time. I have everything set up on my Moto X – Facebook, Twitter, Google, 4 Email Accounts, and tons more. I cannot tell you how many times I went to grab my device expecting the battery to be drained, and still have more than half the battery left. The Moto X lasted all day, and still had over a quarter battery life left when I went to charge it at night. Trust me, between the kids and I the Moto X battery was definitely put to the test.
I found this great YouTube video by Verizon that will show explain a little more about the Moto X, and let you see it in action. It’s Rockin!
Would I Purchase The Moto X
You bet I would, and my husband is already planning on upgrading his device in a few weeks to the Moto X with Verizon Wireless.! The Moto X is a darn good phone, with tons of great features. It’s the smartest smartphone I have ever been lucky enough to use, and defiantly listens to me better than my kids, lol. It’s also well made, customizable, and made right here in the U.S.A. The Moto X is everything I need and then some. I only have one compliant, and that’s my husband! He will not stop asking me to let him use it until he is able to upgrade!
