When American Girl releases a new doll, it is an exciting time for fans. Not only is there a beautiful new doll to collect, there is a story behind each character that connects young girls to America’s past. Launched in 1986 and reintroduced in 2015, the BeForever™ line includes 11 characters, each one representing a historical era. Accessories, clothing, and furniture are also available for each doll. The line includes BeForever “Journey” books, which takes readers on a journey with the characters. Nanea Mitchell is the newest doll in the collection.
Nanea Mitchell made her introduction to the world in August 2017. She is a little girl growing up in Hawaii in the 1940s. Her story explores life in the weeks leading up to and the aftermath of the attack on Pearl Harbor. The young girl’s determined Aloha spirit drives her to help her neighbors during wartime. Through her patriotism and unwavering courage, she shows how one little girl can make a difference, even when facing big challenges. American Girl worked with an advisory board as well as an eyewitness to the Pearl Harbor attack in order to portray Hawaiian culture and history accurately.
Nanea Mitchell has long brown hair and hazel eyes. The 18″ doll has a soft, cloth body, vinyl limbs, and a movable head. She comes dressed in true Hawaiian style with a button-front blouse with Hawaiian graphics, sailor style Moku shorts, and criss-cross strapped shoes. A faux-hibiscus flower hair clip finishes off her island-inspired look. The doll comes with Growing Up with Aloha, the first novel in the Nanea classic series.
Like all American Girl dolls, Nanea is absolutely beautiful and her outfit is a true reflection of 1940s Hawaiian style. Hr collection also includes clothes and accessories, including an adorable hula outfit. I have taken the time to read the book and it impressed me. My daughter also enjoyed it. I believe that learning about Pearl Harbor from a young girl’s perspective can help get kids interested in history.
The doll comes packaged in a sturdy box.
The Nanea collection is available through American Girl’s catalogue; at americangirl.com; at all American Girl retail locations nationwide; and at American Girl specialty boutiques at select Indigo™ and Chapters™ in Canada and El Palacio de Hierro locations in Mexico City. The Nanea books are also available through retail and online booksellers.
