PBS in partnership with Breakthrough Entertainment Inc has just released “L.M. Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables the Good Stars” on November 7, 2017. PBS is a station that has since 1955 provided cultural movies, shows and educational entertainment for all ages. While Breakthrough Entertainment Inc has been distributing high value entertainment for the past 30 years. John Kent Harrison is the writer and director who brings back the same cast from the first L.M. Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables installment. This film is very entertaining and with a selective, smart cast.
This installation of Anne of Green Gables is a great standalone film but more appealing if watched after the first. It has great characters from Anne, to her two caretakers, Marilla and Matthew, played by Martin Sheen, as well as her best friend, Diana, and young love interest, Gilbert. They all are engaging with their own realistic flaws and upsides. Anne is in pursuit of becoming a more sensible individual as she struggles with her own wants and needs of a transitioning 13-year-old as well with her own personality that loves to live in the now. I love how she tries to explain this to the adults around her, but nobody quite sees sense in what she says. She pursues proper education, spiritual growth and looks around her for proper guidance as to the proper, sensible individual she should be for herself, her loved ones and peers.
We received the L.M. Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables the Good Stars DVD and loved it. Anne is such a character. She is sweet, kind, stubborn, smart and adventurous. Her character is one that one can’t resist but liking alongside with all the misadventures she gets into. I was left wanting to see more of Anne’s adventures and of her future life. I would love to see more about her guardians Matthew and Marilla. The 90 minutes flew by, I was suckered into the farm life and Anne’s daily life and mysterious exploits only Anne would get into. I love how she evolves and her relationships grow. I love her loyalty to her friends and her flare for drama. It entertained me as the viewed and entertained the friends in her life and made her appealing to Gilbert. They left me hanging in regard to their future relationship and can’t wait to get more of Anne of Green Gables.
