Public Media Distribution, LLC alongside Nick Jr. has just released a great new DVD on the beloved character Miffy the Bunny. Public Media Distribution is a company that works to bring great content for adults and children throughout the whole world. Miffy the Bunny show is based on a book by Dick Bruna originally written over 60 years ago. They now run adaptations of the show on Nick Jr. but Miffy is popular across the world due to the popularity of the simple bunny image, the book, her appealing persona and great developmental lessons. The DVD released last week on November 14, 2017.
First off, the characters are very cute and loveable. The colors are all solids and easy to process on the eyes. My son was initially confused as to whether the bunny was a boy or girl, as they are unadorned compared to other shows, but I liked this as it was simple to focus on colors and ask them questions of color recognition. I loved how they talk with a British accent, where the show seems to have their larger fan base. My son had never seen the show prior but loved the music and loved her antics. It is great how they teach them educational lessons in a fun way, like colors and numbers, life lessons, like kindness and respect, and exposes them to new topics, like ballet and bowling. It runs 77 minutes across 11 episodes.
We received “Miffy’s Adventures Big and Small: Play Date with Miffy!” and my children who had never watched her show before were hooked. All I heard that week was the Miffy theme song and saw my kids hopping around or talking about Snuffy, her pet dog and Miffy this and Miffy that. They were also pretending to bowl and skip on puddles. Their favorite episode out of the was the one where Miffy and her friends learn to bowl which was the first episode they chose from the DVD and now they are interested in learning to bowl. Both my kids loved that her character was a bunny, how she leaps most of all and how white she was. I liked that the episodes were a bit on the shorter side and great for when you need to do a quick errand without overwhelming my kids with screen time and it lent itself to talks with my kids about what bowling is, what to do when it rains and how much they like the snow.
