This post is brought to you by our friends at Smucker’s. All opinions are my own.
If there are one thing that’s loved by everyone in this household, it’s the traditional peanut butter & jelly sandwich. We might all enjoy different flavors of Smucker’s Jam. Everyone except my husband and youngest daughter like creamy Jif Peanut Butter. Yup, they are defiantly on Team Crunchy. Sure we all enjoy things like the Peanut Butter & Jelly Baked Donut Holes, Grilled Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich I made or the Peanut Butter & Jelly Muffinss, but the traditional peanut butter and jelly hold all the memories.
I’ve been doing a lot of thinking recently, and I want my kids to have the best memories. When I think back to my childhood, I don’t remember how much money we had I remember what we did together, you know the good stuff. Sitting on the porch chatting with everyone, eating a PB&J. At one point my mom wouldn’t let us eat them inside because we had a food fight, which was 100% my brother fault. Yup, I had to defend myself, lol. See, those memories are the best. They make you smile and take you back; that’s what I want my kids to have.
You know my youngest daughter, who can’t wait for my husband and me to have another baby, so she isn’t the youngest, is in kindergarten. I know, I can’t believe it, and she hates it when I call her the youngest because she is the youngest out of everyone except her new favorite cousin who was born in December, Gavin. He is such a sweet baby and gosh he loves Mattie, he already seems have a bond with her, and Corbin did.
It’s so awesome to see her with Gavin because Corbin was the same way with her. She told me not long ago that she felt like it was her job to take care of Gavin like Corbin did her since he is living up in heaven now he would want her to do that. Gosh, it hurts so much to hear her say that but, on the other hand, I am proud of her because that is absolutely what Corbin would have wanted. It’s just amazing how smart our kids are at such a young age.
One thing I can say about all my children is that they are caring. They without a doubt put others before themselves, and it makes me so darn proud to see that in action or hear it from their teachers. Oh, or the other day Mattie go an award with older kids because she is the most caring, Catie got the peace award because she resolves issues without conflict and promotes peace to her friends. Vayda, her teacher, tells me all the time that she is sweet and caring. She befriends all the kids that get bullied or picked on because she says it hurts her to see people hurt other people and my son, he is just loving and sweet as pie. Once you get to know he, it’s hard not to be putty in his hands. Oh, and he knows when you turn to putty too lol.
I must admit; the house is so quiet while the kids are at school. I often sit around and think about them and how much I miss them. There are times I even miss the bickering. I sincerely hate that my kids are growing up so quickly, and I also hate that they are gone from 8 am to 3 pm, it’s such a long time, especially for a kindergartener. When you think about it, these kids have a full-time job they have to go to for 12 years. WOW, it’s crazy to think of it that way, but they work hard, and now and then I like to surprise them by doing something special. Just to let them know I’m proud of them and that I think about them while they are away.
Last week after Mattie got her award with the help of our friends at Smucker’s we were able to welcome them home with a Peanut Butter & Jelly Party! Before they got home, I got out all of our favorite flavors of Smucker’s Jelly and put it on one slice of bread.
Put some Jif Peanut Butter on the other slice of bread. Creamy on everyone’s except for Mattie, since my husband wasn’t home from work yet. While I was sitting there looking at this stack of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches I got a bright idea. Not only is Valentine’s Day coming up, but I also want my kids to know I love them. What a better way to sneak in an I love you than with a heart PB&J, right!
Can you believe I couldn’t find a heart cookie cutter. I’m still wondering where they all went, maybe they took off with the forks that I can’t seem to find, which I’m convinced ran away with the socks. HUMM, I just don’t know maybe that character, “I don’t know” is taking them all. Do you have this issue? Thankfully I keep my heart pancake mold away from the influence of the heart cookie cutters and forks. It worked surprisingly well. It fit perfectly!
How awesome is that! Now when they get home, they will not only get the chance to put off their homework and relax for a bit with their favorite Smucker’s Jam and Jif Peanut Butter and eat their heart Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich.
The kids were so excited when they walked it and saw the Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches and the fun decoration. Nothing too fancy, just fun to let them know we are proud of them and that they deserve a break from time to time. The girls got home first, and I had to make them wait for their brother it’s not fair to start without them. Naturally, it was so hard for the girls to wait, but they managed to do it now without complaining of starvation lol. It took about thirty minutes, and finally, Bud showed up, and the kids could enjoy their heart Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwiches.
I should have checked the sandwiches better because I accidently turned my Peanut Butter & Jelly sandwich into a heart instead of Mattie’s. However, she is a good sport. She didn’t want to wait for me to cut it and she told me as long as she could have the hat she would be okay. How could I not give her the hat, right!
Jif and Smucker’s have always been our go-to brand because they not only make great, quality products that taste great, but they have an impressive variety of flavors that include their Naturals line as well.
