My boys get bored easily, especially when we are in the car. Sometimes they bring their handheld games or tablets with them for entertainment. I limit their screen time each day at home. While we are running errands or traveling however, I usually let the bring their devices along just to avoid hearing them complain that they are bored. When The Purple Cow offered to send me one of their travel games to review, I jumped at the chance. It seemed like a great way to keep the devices at home while keeping the boys entertained on the go.
The Purple Cow began designing, developing, and manufacturing games in 2000. Founded in Australia, the family based company has headquarters in Maryland and Israel. From the beginning, The Purple Cow has been dedicated to creating items that take distract kids from their electronic devices, even if just temporarily. In order to do this, they work hard to come up with products that capture their attention and keeps them engaged in fun. All of the games feature fun artwork by renowned Australian artist, Inna Semadar.
The Purple Cow has games for kids of all ages and skill levels. They offer travel games, puzzles, card games, magnetic games and so much more. You cannot purchase products directly from the company’s website, but you can browse their large selection and learn more about each game. You can find most of the products on Amazon.com at an affordable price. I received the Lotto Animals Game to review.
Lotto Animals Game:
- Number of players: 2-4
- Age: 2 and up
- Includes: 4 games boards and 24 cards
Instructions:
Before the game begins, each player takes one game board. A player shuffles the cards and places them in a pile facing down. If there are 1 to 3 players, the remaining boards and matching cards are not used.
Beginner Version:
Moving clockwise, the players take turns drawing a card from the pile. They show the card to the other players. Whoever spots the picture on his or her game board, takes the card and places it face down on their board.
Advanced Version:
After shuffling, one player makes 6 rows of 4 cards placed face down. In a clockwise direction, players take turns picking up a card. They show it to the others and check to see if it matches his or her own game board. If it is a match, it is placed face down on the player’s own board. If it does not match, it is returned to its original position. The first player to fill the board wins!
The boys were excited to try this game so they did not wait until we went somewhere. The game was easy for them to play after we went over the instructions one time. This is a big plus in my book because it eliminates arguing over the rules. My older son was a bit too old for the game, but my younger son loved it and it won’t long before my daughter is able to play. One of my favorite things about the game is that it comes packaged in a cute tin. This makes it easy to store and take with us on the go. I also love the adorable artwork. This game encourages creative play and encourages kids to use memory skills.
You can pick this game up on Amazon for $11.89!
