I recently left my job to work from my home, and be with my family more. Before I worked six days a week, and I was lucky to be home by 7:00pm. So much for banker’s hours right? All that went out the window the day I took on my position as a branch manager.
My husband I and I knew about a year ago we needed to make some changes around the house. One of us needed to be home, and I wanted to be home with my family. For the last year my schedule was crazy. I would come home, help my husband with anything I could, get the kids in bed, and jump on the blog, and work until I couldn’t keep my eyes open. I did this day after day, for an entire year. I do not know how I did it, other than it’s amazing what we will do for our families. It took one year to supplement my income, to get us to a spot where my blogging was going to cover what it needed to. Either way it’s finally over, and all the hard work and sleepless nights I spend on this blog were worth it.
My children are very appreciative. They noticed me working and dad filling in. Oh man did dad ever fill in; he did so much! The kids knew I didn’t sleep, and that I couldn’t have done any of it without my husband. We talked to them; they knew exactly what our plans were, and why things were so out of whack! Which is why the entire family feels the stress that was lifted!
Right off the bat we started Family Movie night. We turned on NetFlix, picked a movie, and things started to get a little crazy.
Our first Family movie night was so much fun. Since then, we have danced, dog piled, wrestled, laughed, smiled, and sat down for a movie together as a family every single night. We turn on Netflix, and take turns who picks what we watch. My daughter and I just finished adding all kinds of movies to our saved lists so we can access them easily and we remember what we wanted to watch. It’s awesome. We have watched all kinds of different movies and TV shows such as:
- Cats Toons: Mater’s Tall Takes, Angelina Ballerina, and My Little Pony which of course that was my pick. My three-year old Mattie talked me into Angelina Ballerina, lol. My Little Pony, that’s all me! Huge fan of anything with the Ponies, or Disney!
- Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue, and Curious George: Road Rally, my three-year old Mattie picked them. She is so cute and really gets into her movies.
- Transformers Prime, you guessed it my husband Shawn. Poor dad; I just realized he has been skipped twice, lol.
- Justin Time, nope you’re wrong my son picked this. He has been a fan of Justin forever, and we watch it ever single time it’s his turn to pick.
- Suite Life of Zack & Cody, Pocahontas, and Dr Seuss’ The Lorax, were what Vayda decided she wanted to watch.
- ParaNorman, Batman and Beyond, and 101 Dalmatians goes to my oldest Catie. Just goes to show she’s still and always will be my little girl!
NetFlix makes having family movie night easy. Anytime we want to watch a movie or one of our favorite TV shows we just turn it on. Sure does beat all those late fees I pay when I rent movies too. OMG, I’m not a good movie taker baker person! Not at all! One time I rented movies and it took me three weeks to take it back. I don’t remember any time I have ever dropped one off on time, so NetFlix really saves me money as well as time. Plus they have great new content from Hasbro, Disney Jr, and Cartoon Network. You can explore movies and TV shows for ever and ever.
What I like most about NetFlix is the fact that my family can enjoy family movie night whenever we want. Yes, on the weekends we have movie night during the day. Every Family Night/Day is something new and fun, whether the kids are acting crazy, or being calm and sweet we enjoy our time together. Whether they’re laying on the couch together, big sis is playing with little sisters hair, it is still a great way to bond and build memories. Our recently new family movie nights do not cost much and have done so much for our family.
Today I noticed that Sesame Street is on NetFlix. I know right? How awesome is that? Now in the mornings when Mattie wants to watch one more show I can let her do that. I limit my kids TV time. They are allowed two hours in the morning, and our family time in the evening. Since my children discovered NetFlix that’s pretty much all that has been on. I told my husband if it keeps up then I will stop subscribing to cable. I personally only watch TV when we have family movie nights, and if the kids and husband are happy with NetFlix why pay the extra bill.
I am also excited that I can take NetFlix with us when we travel this summer. Is that awesome or what?!?! You can watch your favorite movies and TV shows whenever, and wherever. Yes, even if you’re driving down the road, you can watch on your tablet. It really helps the kids pass the time; mom and dad are also much happier. NO more fighting in the back seat, Yepie!! (Clapping hands, because NetFlix helps keep my blood pressure down when traveling, lol).
With four kids and summer break here, the dedicated kids section is fabulous. It’s appropriate for children ages 2 – 12 and my children love it. All content is selected with help from Common Sense Media to provide ratings, reviews and information so that parents can easily make choices for their kids. It’s awesome, and TONS to choose from.
If you have children you will appreciate the Just for Kids area of the website. It’s super easy to navigate. At the top of the page you will see some awesome characters. All you have to do is click on one of them and it will bring up everything NetFlix has with them. I have included a screenshot for you. I just love that they have made their website easy for my children to navigate. Not to mention there is every cartoon character from My Little Pony to the Avengers. Check it out for yourself at NetFlix.com.
It’s too easy to get sidetracked with everything that life pushes our way. It’s so important to take a breather, even if it’s once a week. Make sure to spend quality time with your family, and bond with them. I have to say I really love NetFlix and the fact that it’s so easy for us to sit down and watch a movie as a family. Its also easy enough for my children to figure out. They enjoy watching NetFlix to catch their cartoons; it’s nice that its easy for them to use themselves. No more running to the video store to rent a movie. Everything is right there. Just stream and go. It’s really that easy; I have to say we love our NetFlix.
What are you watching on TV with your family? Netflix has family favorites from Disney, Disney Jr., Hasbro, Cartoon Network and Dreamworks that are available to stream anytime, anywhere.
And streaming is easier than you think! Download the free app on your iPad, click on the Netflix app on any gaming device, go to the website on your computer – and you’re in business. Check it out here!

We just moved and miss our netflix bad. Can’t wait to turn the internet back on so that we can have a new movie whenever we get a chance to relax. My only complaint with them is they don’t change their streaming movie lineup very often so if you watch a lot of movies you run out of new ones fairly quickly.
Awesome idea for a movie night. We love watching movies here in our family!
Lisa
We just started doing this-I would recommend the Lego movie, The Adventures of Clutch Powers. It’s surprisingly good!
Movie night is an excellent idea. We did that when the kids were young. Not only to see a good movie, to catch up with the kids and take a breather ourselves. I still enjoy movie night.
I love a good movie and spending it with your family is awesome!
i love watching a movie together as a whole family. we all don’t really get to sit together and enjoy something as one. going to look up a movie to rent, actually, so we can all watch together 🙂
That’s awesome, we just got done watching a movie… I just know there is so many more to come too! KIDS ARE OUT FOR SUMMER, YEPIE LOVE IT!
I tried commenting earlier but don’t know if it worked.
My kids love movie night and we always have popcorn! Their go-to movie is Despicable Me. Doesn’t matter how many times we watch it, they love it every time!
I have to say Movie Night has been so much fun we have a blast and the kids get crazy but its so much fun to see them get goofy and crazy. Despicalbe Me is a super cute moive too, I think we might have added that to our list for later, lol. We have so many movies added, I dont’ remember which ones we have.
Wow, Netflex really does make it easy to have Family Night! All the great shows that are available for the family to watch. I need to have a family night, and watch movies again. I have not used Netflex, but I need to check them out! You do a great job on your blog!
