Getting a good night’s sleep is something you can’t put a price on. Rest is one of the most important things everyone’s body needs. It is recommended that adults receive an average of at least seven hours of sleep at night in order to feel productive and energized. Unfortunately, more than 30% of Americans have some sort of sleep disorder. Whether it be due to snoring, inability to stay asleep, or just inconsistent sleep in general, poor sleep can reak havoc on our bodies.
In order to improve your sleep game, we’ve put together a list of great products and ideas that will put you to sleep faster and help you stay asleep throughout the night!
Where Do You Lay Your Head at Night?
A great option to improve your sleep is to upgrade your pillow cases. There are several advantages to utilizing pillow cases on your pillow, including improved skin, protecting you from allergies, and more. Pillow cases can be made from all different types of fabrics, including cotton, polyester, flannel, silk, percale, satin, and linen.
If you’re looking to invest in pillow cases, we highly suggest going with either a percale or satin. Both types of pillow cases are made with a fabric that does everything you could ever want! It is excellent for your skin, helps you stay cool at night, and provides an even more comfortable spot for you to lay your head.
Weighting for a Great Night’s Sleep
Weighted blankets are another great option to help you drift off to sleep. Weighted blankets originally came out in 1999 and were primarily used for mental health patients. In 2010, the product faced a name change, but by 2017, the weighted blanket became a well-known item. The blanket feels like a firm touch, which promotes healing benefits in the body. Blankets can be filled with glass beads, plastic pellets, ball bearings, or other materials that add to the blanket’s overall weight. Weighted blankets are available in different weights and sizes, ranging from 12 pounds to over 20 pounds. The blanket is said to cause your body to help stipulate serotonin, a mood-boosting hormone. Some even say that weighted blankets help reduce nighttime tossing and turning. The perfect blanket weight for you can be discovered by calculating 10% of your total body weight.
What Was That Sound?
Sound machines are another great option to help improve a person’s sleep quality. These machines can be very small and unobtrusive. Some can play a variety of sounds, for example, the beach, rain, forest, thunderstorm, and others. Noise machines help drown out sounds from inside the house or outside. Drowning out all outside sounds allows for a deeper sleep and less tossing and turning through the night. The best part about noise machines is you can purchase one relatively cheaply, and they’re available at many realtors. This is a wonderful option for those who not only have a hard time going to sleep or staying asleep but also for individuals who may work a night shift and need to disguise outside noise.
Sleep and Smell
If you’re looking for a scented product, you’ll most likely find one that is lavender scented. What makes lavender so great? It relaxes you and works to slow down your mind. Lavender can also put you into a very deep sleep, which is a very important part of your sleep cycle resulting in slowing your heart rate and relaxing the muscles. With that, our next suggested item for a better night’s sleep is an oil diffuser. Oil diffusers work similar to a humidifier, but they come in more stylish options. Just add the appropriate amount of water to your favorite scent. In this instance, we recommend lavender. Turn on the oil diffuser, and let the oil diffuser do the rest. The oil diffuser works to fill the air with small bubbles that include the essential oil. Oil diffusers are much safer often when sleeping in comparison to burning a candle, which could be dangerous. These bubbles travel through the room and provide a calmer, better sleeping environment that smells great too!
Close Your Eyes
We love a great sleep mask at night! Wearing a sleep mask is a great way to block out light while you’re working on getting some shut-eye. It’s imperative only to purchase a sleep mask made of a gentle, soft fabric that won’t irritate the face or eyes. There are several great fabric options, including natural or synthetic materials, such as cotton, silk, or polyester. Be sure to wash your mask frequently, as the oils produced on your face while you sleep will become trapped in the sleep mask, causing breakouts.
These are just a few suggestions that may help improve your sleep. Being able to stop, relax, and rest is excellent for your health, both mentally and physically!
