I love summer because it means spending more time with the kids. However, it also means keeping them entertained, which isn’t always an easy task. This is especially true on days where it is just too hot to play outside. When they become too restless or bored, we usually break out the board games since it is one of the few things they both enjoy. Some of our family favorites come from Goliath Games and Pressman Toys. Both companies offer a large selection of games and puzzles for kids and adults.

Shark Bite

Loaded with fun, Shark Bite reels you in and gets you hooked. Created by the makers of Let’s Go Fishin‘, this easy-to-play game lets players take turns fishing for colorful sea creatures. Watch out though — you never know when you will find a shark on the end of your rod. Designed for 2 to 4 players ages 4 and up, it does not require batteries. You can find it on Amazon

Goliath Games

Though intended for younger kids, Shark Bite is loads of fun for players of all ages. It has simple instructions and comes with everything needed to play. The game is perfect for improving fine motor skills as well as practicing hand-eye coordination, color recognition, and counting.

Rocket Fishing Rod

The Rocket Fishing Rod changes the way kids fish! Unlike traditional rods that many kids struggle with, this one is easy to use. They just pump, aim, and fire up to 30-feet to catch real fish. It includes a safety bobber that encloses the hook until it hits the water. Once under water, the bobber opens up to drop the bait. Featuring hi-tech precision engineering and ABS plastic construction, this Rocket Fishing Rod is tough enough to withstand the outdoor elements. It is recommended for ages 8 and up and it is available at Amazon. You can watch a video tutorial here.

The package includes:

  • Rocket fishing rod
  • 150 feet of 8-pound fishing line
  • 1 bobber
  • 2 line stops
  • 1 weight
  • 2 hooks
  • Instructions

Rocket Rod

The boys were anxious to use the Rocket Fishing Rod, so it wasn’t long before we headed for the lake. Typically, we spend a good chunk of time getting things set up for the boys, but not with this one. It was extremely simple to set up and use. Kids load the lure on to the bobber, load the bobber into the end of the rod, cock the rod to build pressure, aim, and pull the trigger. With the unique bobber/hook system, you never have to worry about the kids snagging themselves or someone else with the hook. This fishing rod has saved the boys, (and me) so much frustration. It is also a blast to use, which is a huge bonus.

Zoom Ball Hydro

Goliath Games lets you take the fun outdoors with the Zoom Ball Hydro. You and a friend each grab a set of handles, open your arms as fast as you can to send the ball zooming to your friend. Be sure to send the Zoom Ball back as quickly as possible, because you never know when the balloons will pop and soak you. It comes with 25 balloons and it is for ages 8 and up. You can find the Zoom Ball Hydro from Amazon.

Zoom Ball Hydro

The Zoom Ball Hydro is one of the boys’ favorite things to play outdoors. It combines fun with a touch of suspense since nobody knows when the balloons will pop. This ball is a good choice for cookouts, parties, or just playing between friends. You can also take on the go and enjoy it at the beach, park, or friend’s house. This ball is not just for kids, as the adults will want to get in on the action, too.
