The Ultimate New Baby Starter Kit #FinnishBabyBox
~I received a sample to help facilitate this post. As always, opinions are still 100% my own.~
Whether you are a first-time parent or three-time parent like me, there is one thing that is clear – babies need a lot of stuff. Diapers, wipes, clothing, bottles, formula, a bed and bedding, and everything else, really takes a lot of time to gather together. You visit different stores and make multiple trips just to make sure you’re prepared. Or even if you take hand-me-downs from family and friends, there’s always going to be something missing, something that isn’t in that great of shape, and you have to figure out what you still need. What a headache!?
What if I told you there’s a company and product that could save you all of this new baby frustration? I mean, mom definitely has other things to worry about, like hers and baby’s health.
Let me introduce you to the Finnish Baby Box.
When you hear baby box, you might immediately think of a sample box containing baby items, and in this case you wouldn’t be completely wrong, but it’s also more than that. The Finnish Baby Box is a box that baby actually sleeps in and it comes packed with lots of stuff you’ll need to initially get ready for your new baby – clothing of different sizes, mattress and bedding for the baby box, bath supplies, feeding supplies, and more!
The Original Finnish Baby Box contains:
- 1 bed box and lid
- 1 mattress
- 1 mattress cover
- 1 bottom sheet
- 1 duvet
- 1 duvet cover
- 1 sleeping bag
- 7 bodysuits
- 7 pants
- 2 pajama bags
- 1 pajamas
- 1 playsuit
- 1 pair of tights
- 2 pair of socks
- 2 pair of mittens
- 1 light hat
- 1 outdoor hat
- 1 balaclava hat
- 1 outdoor overall
- 1 mid-layer overall
- 1 drool bib
- 1 feeding bottle
- 1 feeding bib
- 2 muslin burp clothes
- 1 pair of washable nursing pads
- 1 baby toothbrush
- 1 bath thermometer
- 1 hooded towel
- 1 baby hairbrush
- 1 pair of baby nail scissors
- 1 soft toy
- 6 condoms (for parents use, of course)
That is a lot of stuff and because it all comes in one box, it saves you time and reduces the stress of preparing for such a big moment in your life. No more hunting down baby items. You’re ready to bring baby home and start a fun-filled life together. The Finnish Baby Box is the ultimate new baby starter kit!
Now, you may be wondering about the whole baby sleeping in a box thing. This is something that has been around in Finland since the 1930’s, but to my knowledge is a fairly new concept elsewhere, or at least in the United States. By having their babies sleep in cardboard boxes, Finland has achieved one of the lowest infant mortality rates in the world. With that being said, why not incorporate the same practices throughout the rest of the world?
The mattress that comes with the box fits perfectly in the bottom. It may look a little strange, but it’s breathable, durable, washable, and recyclable. Simply put down the mattress cover and bottom sheet, and baby is ready for a safe nap. My newborn has been sleeping in his Finnish Baby Box for just under three weeks now and he’s just as happy as can be.
I’d also like to add that a crib was my biggest expense when I had my first child. I think we spent about $300 on a crib and it takes up so much room. A baby box doesn’t take up much room at all, which is great now because we currently live in a small apartment, and it can essentially put off the expense of buying a crib for at least 3-4 months. Focus on getting diapers and wipes in the beginning instead because I guarantee you’ll need more of those than you think you will.
And get this – once your baby outgrows the ability to sleep in the box, you can use the box and lid to hold baby’s keepsakes.
As for the clothing and other items that come in the Finnish Baby Box, they are all of top quality. The clothing is in Finnish sizing, but luckily there’s a sizing chart to help translate it because the sizing in Finland is different than the typical sizing here in the U.S. The box includes clothing that ranges in size from newborn to 12 months, so you’ll have some pieces of every size for baby’s first year. Not to mention the pieces are gender neutral and so stinking cute.
How much does this big box of baby goodness cost? Well, it’s not cheap at $449, but considering all that comes in it, the box itself being baby’s bed for a few months, and the fact you won’t have to run around to different stores getting everything you need to bring baby home (sanity saver), it’s well worth it.
Whether you’re an expecting parent or someone looking for a baby shower gift, the Finnish Baby Box should be on your list. I would even suggest a few baby shower guests come together to buy the expecting parents one of these. I’m kind of sad I waited until baby #3 to get one. We are loving ours and it made it so much easier to focus on my pregnancy rather than stressing about some of the things baby still needed before bringing him home.
