Preschoolers love to make crafts. If you are looking for some fun craft ideas for preschool aged children, paper plate crafts are always a big hit. You would be amazed at how many different animals can be created out of paper plates. Here are just a few ideas to get you started.
- Large paper plate
- Small paper plate
- Red, orange, white construction paper
- Google eyes
- Pencil
- Glue stick
- Scissors
- The smaller plate is the head of the chicken, and the larger plate is the body. Place the large paper plate upside down in front of your child and help your child use the glue stick to glue the smaller plate (right side up) to the top of the larger plate.
- Next help your child glue the google eyes to the center of the smaller plate for the chicken’s eyes. Then cut out a small beak from the orange construction paper and glue it to the center of the chicken’s face.
- You will need to help your child trace their hand three times: twice on the white construction paper, and once on the red construction paper.
- Help your child cut out the hand prints. The red hand print will be the chicken’s “comb”, so glue it to the top of the chicken’s head. The white hand prints are the chicken’s wings, so glue them to the sides of the chicken.
- Lastly, cut out two feet out of the orange construction paper and glue them to the bottom of the paper plate for the chicken’s feet.
- Large paper plate
- White construction paper
- Cotton balls
- Black marker
- Google eyes
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Glue stick
- First help your child glue cotton balls all over the large paper plate. If the glue stick doesn’t hold well enough, you might need to use Elmer’s glue instead.
- Cut a circle out of the white construction paper for the sheep’s face. Glue on the google eyes and use a black marker or crayon to draw on the rest of the sheep’s face. Then cut out two ears and glue them to the sides of the sheep’s head.
- Cut four small rectangles out of the white construction paper for the sheep’s feet and glue them to the bottom of the paper plate.
- Large paper plate
- Brown craft paint
- Paint brush
- Google eyes
- Red, yellow, orange construction paper
- Pencil
- Glue stick
- Scissors
- Set out some old newspapers and let your child have fun painting the entire bottom of the paper plate brown.
- After the paint has dried, have your child glue the google eyes in the center of the plate. Cut out a nose and wattle from the orange and red construction paper and glue them just below the turkey’s eyes.
- Cut two feet out of orange construction paper and glue them to the bottom of the plate.
- Use a pencil to create a feather “pattern” and use the pattern to trace approximately eight feathers out of red, yellow, and orange construction paper. Help your child cut out all the feathers and glue them to the back of the plate.
These animal paper plate crafts are great to make when teaching about farms or farm animals. Your preschooler will also have fun playing with his or her cute new animal friends.
