I recently purchased a new truck and well, let’s say it doesn’t smell so wonderful anymore. I guess it’s because I use it to haul hay, haul kids to and from practice, take it to the river, camping and everything in between. Sadly, it does not take long for things to get a little smelly. Rather than taking my truck to someone, I decided to tackle the funky smells myself and work on keeping my truck smelling great.
Tips for Getting Out Funk and Keeping Your Car Smelling Great
Keeping our vehicles smelling great isn’t easy, especially when you have children or pets who ride in your vehicle.
Vacuum
Vacuuming is a great place to start, it helps get rid of any odors that are hiding in your vehicle’s fabric, but it isn’t always enough to eliminate odors.
Baking soda
We all know baking soda is great for removing odors. Well, it works great in your car. Just sprinkle a little on your floors and seats, allow it to sit for a few hours and vacuum it up.
Charcoal
I’ve never used charcoal but my dad used to place a chunk in his truck for a few days to remove smells.
Steam clean fabrics
Use a steam cleaner on the interior of your car to not only freshen up the smell linger in your vehicle’s fabric but clean them up so they look better too.
Clean floor mats
I take my floor mats out and shake them off but often forget that they need cleaning too. You can clean them off with a water and dish soap mixture to remove help remove any odors. Be sure to hang them to dry before placing them back into your car.
Clean your windows
Believe it or not, cleaning your windows helps remove dust and even grime which can be part of the odor lingering in your vehicle.
The best thing you can do to save your self some time is to prevent odors. Which is easier than you might think. You can do this by keeping a trash bag in your vehicle, removing trash, avoiding spills, not smoking in your vehicle, cleaning up spills immediately and keeping your car fresh with Refresh Your Car® Vent Clips and Mini Diffusers.
