Over the summer I did a lot of traveling, whether it was a family road tip, or jumping on the plane I found myself being a mom working on the go often this summer. Now that the fall months are here, things have started to settle down a little as far as travel, but we still have several road tips coming up, which means mom’s going to be a mobile mom – working on the go, working from her smartphone/car/when I can yet again. Remember, working on the go doesn’t mean you work while you are driving, or in any way that will distract the driver. It should be done safely, when you are not driving.
If you find yourself working on the go, whether it’s taking the kids to the park, driving to the airport or a road trip to grandmas for the holiday seasons, here are a few tips that might make things a little easier and be sure to read on because you’re going to love what Chevrolet is doing for us. Oh, I cannot tell you now, you have to read on, but I promise to spill the beans. HINT – Built-in OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot.
15 Tips For Working On The Go & Chevrolet’s OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi
Apps – USE THEM! I don’t know how people, or why people don’t take advantage of great apps like OneDrive, DropBox (or this Dropbox replacement!), Google Drive, Evernote and so many others. Not only are there great apps to help you while you traveling, there are great apps to help you work on the go, too. Be sure and check them out, my personal favorite is OneDrive. I can keep everything from documents to pictures in one place, and access them when and wherever I am – phone, laptop, computer and tablet.
Voice – Typically, some of my best ideas come to me while I am driving. Has that happened to you? You’re driving down the road, and BAM the best idea for a blog post, or presentation pops into you head, and you know if you don’t write it down or something you’ll forget within 10 minutes. Tell your phone to open up Evernote, and leave yourself a voice reminder, and if you’re really good you can even talk out your blog post, or presentation using Evernote. I love voice, it keeps you from ever needing to take your hands off the wheel, because the most important thing you are doing is driving, and you should NEVER take your hands off the wheel to mess with any device, nor should you distract the driver if you’re a passenger. If you’re not able to reach your device by voice, then safely pull over.
On-the-go bag – Keep you an organized bag, which will include everything needed to work on the go. I keep 2 planners, 1 small one for my work bag, as well as my laptop, cables, pens and all the other essentials I need to work on the go. Be sure it’s TSA-friendly if you’re planning on flying.
Be productive – Take advantage of stops, when the kids fall asleep a little early, wake up earlier than everyone or while you’re waiting in airports. Anytime you have a moment to be productive, do it. Don’t plan on working when you know everyone is going to be active, you’ll likely put off work to join the fun.
Sync it – With everything we have available to us, syncing your workflow across computers should be a breeze. I use Windows everything, which makes syncing easier for me, but you can have several different operating systems and still manage to have everything where you want it with all the great apps available to us. Again, OneDrive is my favorite!
Worry about essentials – Don’t stress the extra things. Make a list of all your essentials, and only take them with you. You can tweet it up when you get back. I use a Nokia Lumia 2520 with accessories, it’s lighter, smaller, easier to carry, easier to get access, TSA-friendly (I don’t have to take it out and place it in its own bin at TSA checkpoints) and works the same as my laptop. Plus, it’s something I can take with me and check my emails anywhere.
Schedule – Anything you can schedule, do it. Your social media can be scheduled, blog posts, things of that nature. If you’re able to set it up to be done automatically, do it, people will understand.
Plan work times – Plan out time you’ll be able to work, but don’t rely on them. This is why you should always take advantage of your time in the car or airport. It’s hard to rely on scheduled work times when you’re on the go.
Always take your tools – I’m a blogger, so I’m always going to have my smartphone and laptop in a decent sized tote or backpack.
Plan for the worst – If you travel a lot, I am sure you have had the trip where you couldn’t get anything done. Plan for it; don’t leave with 4 or 5 things on your plate, but rather get caught up where you are keeping up with your workflow. Worst comes to worst you can work hard when you are home in your work environment.
Plan for offline situations – I also copy and paste blog post instructions to a word document to my desktop, it helps me stay productive when I’m offline.
Stay on task – It’s hard, I know, but you’ll be happy you made yourself stay on task when it’s all said and done.
Power – Be sure to have a good power bank, not only for your cell phone, but your laptop or tablet as well.
Don’t be stuck without the Internet – I use my phones hotspot all the time, especially from the park. The kids and I go to the park all the time. This summer it was nice because we could go early in the morning, it was cool, nobody was there but us, the kids could play, and I could get a little work done. That is, when my hotspot decided to work with me. What a pain. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could have a hotspot in our cars? You know one that’s fast, reliable and always there when you need it? Guess what? There is with several 2015 Chevrolet models.
Get a Chevrolet – I’m a Chevrolet girl, born and raised. I blame my father, but it is what is it, and I love me a Chevrolet. Now there are even more reasons to love Chevrolet!
Chevrolet is the first auto company to bring you 4G LTE Wi-Fi into their cars, amazing trucks and awesome crossover vehicles! Thanks, Chevrolet. I was planning to trade in my Chevrolet Tahoe for a Chevrolet Suburban the start of the New Year, and now I’m even more excited, because you know the connection is going to be more reliable, powerful, and just all around better than the connection you’re getting from your phone while you’re on the go, right?!?!?!
Your Chevrolet Can Be The Ultimate Hotspot
I think many of us knew this one coming, Internet in cars! I couldn’t be more excited – it’s Chevrolet, and with all the holiday traveling we have planned it sure will make my life easier.
Once again, Chevrolet leads the way with the most vehicles in its lineup offering the built-in OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, which is allowing passengers the ability to seamlessly connect all their smart devices and vehicle to the Internet. It’s important to remember the built-in OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot is for passengers only, unless the driver is safely parked.
Wondering how many devices you can connect…SEVEN (7). Cool, right?! I can think of so many reasons this is going to come in handy for my family:
- My husband and I can work from anywhere. This will make so many of our adventures in the middle of nowhere easier. Every year we go on a week-long camping trip, and more often than not we have to leave the campgrounds for signal, because we forgot to do something. BLAH, it will be nice to just connect, get it done, and move on with our trip.
- Traveling with kids! YES, my kids sit in the backseat and play games, watch a movie with headphones or my oldest uses social media. With the built-in OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot they can all have access to their own devices, not hog up all mom’s data. Oh, and those dead spots are no more!
- Search restaurants.
- Find things to do.
- Directions right from my teen in the backseat.
- That cool new grilling recipe I wanted to try on our next camping trip.
- Listening to good music while we’re camping. For some reason the kids are the only ones who remember to bring music, I always tend to forget and sorry, but I hear kids music all day when we’re home.
- Keep the kids’ busy, and in touch with their friends. Okay, so this might only apply for teens, but my daughter went crazy on our last camping trip because she had no cell phone service to talk to her boyfriend, which I can totally understand. I remember being her age, and I am totally okay with her keeping in touch with him as long as it’s not the time we’re there, lol.
- Don’t stress connecting to open Wi-Fi connections!
- All those other times you wished you had Internet while you are away from home. I can think of TONS!
You can relate I’m sure, those places you’re stuck all day thinking about the 1000 other things you could be doing now if you were nor where you were, but you can’t. BAM, Chevrolet’s OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi is perfect!
I could go on and on, but you get the picture! I’m excited, I can think of plenty of reasons I would use Wi-Fi in our vehicle, but which Chevrolet vehicles will have the 4G LTE Wi-Fi?
Which Chevrolet Vehicles Have 4G LTE Wi-Fi
I wanted to know right away which cars were going to have the 4G LTE Wi-Fi, and I cannot tell you how excited I was to learn the Suburban was in the lineup, because we’re planning on trading in our Tahoe for one shortly!
Don’t worry there are tons more 2015 model vehicles in the lineup, like the Volt, Malibu, Impala, Corvette (yea, buddy), Equinox, Spark, Spark EV, Sonic, Cruze, Cruze Diesel, SS, Trax, Tahoe, Suburban, Colorado and the beautiful Silverado.
If your vehicle is on, available OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi is ready and waiting. You can count on great single quality, as well as bandwidth for up to seven devices. It’s going to be better, faster and more reliable connection than your smartphone. In addition, after you set it up, BAM it’s automatically connected to your devices.
Okay, enough of me ranting about how much I love Chevrolet, now it’s your turn! What do you think about Chevrolet’s 4G LTE Wi-Fi? How will it help make your life easier, or how do you see yourself and your family making use of 4G LTE Wi-Fi in your next Chevrolet vehicle?
