Computers are everywhere, and more people are using them at work and home.  Computer eye strain isn’t a joke; it’s bothersome and makes it hard to work.  Eye strain can range from decreased productivity, increased errors, and physical fatigue to increased sensitivity to light, red eyes, and the dreaded twitching eye.  The good news is that there are things you can do to help relieve computer eye strain.

Some Tips to Help Reduce Computer Eye StrainTips To Reduce Computer Eye Strain

Here are a few ways you can relieve computer eye strain.

1.) Stop, take a break; your eyes will appreciate it. If you notice your eyes start to bother you, it might be a good idea to step away for a few minutes.  There is a 20-20-20 rule, which means that for every 20 minutes you spend at the computer, you should take 20 seconds to look at something 20 feet away.

2.) Blink, blink, hey, now don’t forget to blink. Have you ever paid attention to how much you blink while on the computer?  Just make sure you don’t’ forget to blink like normal because staring at the screen can increase dryness as well as redness and irritation.

3.) OMG, I can’t tell what that says because of the glare. Be sure to keep your monitor clean and remove any dust.  You might also consider purchasing an anti-glare screen to help.

4.) Have you ever given your eyes a massage?  Well, maybe you should give it a try. I have rubbed my eye before, and it definitely gave me some relief.  First, warm your hands by rubbing them together, then close your eyes and place your warm hands over your eyes and message without applying too much pressure.

5.) Yes, the lighting does matter and can make a difference. The more competing light you have in the room, the harder your eyes are having to work.  You may want to dim the lighting just a tad.

6.) OMG, if all else fails, maybe you need a checkup with the eye doctor.  Do you remember the last time you went? – If you haven’t been to the eye doctor in a while, it might be a good idea to make an appointment and at least get a checkup.

7.) Check out Eyezen; now this is super cool!  I love mine! Did you know that you can get a great pair of glasses, both prescription and non-prescription, that work to filter out the harmful forms of blue light and allow in the beneficial blue light?  These fabulous glasses also work to improve contrast, reduce glare, and help to prevent premature aging of our eyes.  If you spend any time on the computer you’ll want to consider purchasing a pair.

These are great tips. Thanks for sharing. Any break from the computer screen, short or long, is always good for the eyes. I hate wearing eye glasses so I try my best to keep the eye sight good.

Great tips! I have never heard of the 20-20-20 rule before, it definitely makes sense. I always try to take a break from the screen when I can, even 15-20 min helps a lot.
