Toddler Sleeping: Tips To Help Your Toddler Sleep Better

Todays discussion is thanks to Huggies!  The love for the brand, and opinions are 100% my own!  Now, who’s ready to talk Toddler Sleeping, learn a few tips that I hope will help you get your toddler to sleep better at night, and learn how to SAVE $12 on Huggies Diapers?  Great, let’s get going.

How is your toddler sleeping?  It happened with all my children, once they turned into busy, talking toddlers their sleeping habits changed.  Suddenly, my toddler sleeping the entire night went from GREAT, to not so great.  Mattie was the worst, she would come up with every excuse in the book to keep herself awake.  She would tell me she forgot to give daddy a kiss goodnight, get up and run to give daddy a kiss, and the next thing I know she is rolling around on the floor doing anything she can to keep those eyes wide open.  It’s like they come to an age, where they can finally communicate, and they are big enough to touch and see things from a different level.  I mean, I can see how it would be exciting, but so is my toddler sleeping at night.  Not only for her health, but ours too.

Sleeping ToddlersOf course, we know sleep is important for toddlers, and getting them to sleep can be difficult.  If you have children, I am sure you know what happens when a toddler does not have enough sleep – they have a harder time controlling their emotions, and getting them to sleep can be next to impossible.  They can be irritable, or even worse hyperactive.  Yes, hyper, and it is not fun.

Regular betimes routines can have a huge impact on a childs sleeping patterns, even the older kids sleep better with a schedule.  A good bedtime routine can take the stress out of bedtime, and from time to time you can even put them down a little early for quality time with the spouse, but don’t let your toddler know anything is different when you put them to bed, or bye-bye alone time.

There is not any certain routine you need to follow.  What is important is finding a bedtime routine that works for you family, and sticking with it.  Here are a few suggestions to get you started with a good bedtime routine for your toddler.

Family Sleeping

Set a regular to-bed and to-wake schedule for the family.  I know, there goes Saturday morning sleeping in, but at least you know everyone is getting enough sleep.  Plus, you and your toddler will wake up rested in the mornings, and your toddler will understand that sleep is important for everyone.  If they see everyone with a certain bedtime schedule, it can be easier for them to fall asleep, and stay asleep too.

Do not be afraid

Do not be afraid to try new things.  If a bath right before bed is not working, try bathing before dinner, and allowing 30 minutes to mingle with the family.  You might even want to try going to bed at the same time.  Experiment, and see what works best for them.

You can also experiment with different styles of Huggies.  I found that Mattie and Jess sleep better using Huggies Snug and Dry.

Work together

It’s important for you and your spouse to agree on a bedtime routine.  Also, something we learned when we had a hard time getting Mattie to go to bed was that she does better if daddy put her down, and mommy comes in to say goodnight.  I think it is because dad is gone all day at work, and she wants as much attention from him as possible.  It is great, because they both love it, and mom gets a much-needed 20-minute break to unwind before bed.

Kids SleepingBe organized

Don’t give you toddler the chance to get up out of bed.  If you are organized, and have everything you need, your toddler is more likely to stay put.  If your toddler is anything like mine, the second you leave the room, they are up, rolling around, or even worse hiding so you cannot find them.  It’s happened to me countless times, lol.  It’s funny now, but then I wanted to cry.  Have everything you need for your little one in the same place.  Children, like many adults, do better with a certain routine.  Be sure everything is where you need it and easy to reach, and always keep you an extra stash of diapers somewhere convenient.

Bedtime Diapers

Okay, I have two tips about diapers but the first one is using a bigger diaper for bedtime.  Going up one size is more comfortable for them, or you could simply put the diaper on looser.  Mattie was always so fussy about this, so I bought two different sizes of diapers, and two different types of Huggies.  I have recently started doing this with little Jess too, and it’s worked great.  Huggies Little Movers during the day, and a size larger than normal of Huggies Snug and Dry diapers.  This way, we get the protection of a full on diaper, and it also helps the girls associate a different diaper with bedtime.  I
