Weight Loss Tips: 10 Ways To Avoid Getting Bored On A Diet

Here are a few things I do to help keep the diet boredom away.

  • Revisit my goals – Before making a decision to stray, I take a moment to remember why I set the goals I set. It helps, but it’s not always enough, because when I’m having a bad day I can easily convince myself I need it because of the day I had.
  • Change your routine – Routines are great, but there are times when it feels good to change your routine too. It’s okay to change your diet routine too. I’m guilty of eating the same thing over and over, because I see results, and I don’t want to change anything. It’s okay to change your meal plan around, as long as you keep things healthy, and stick with your diet. There are things you can do to keep a diet interesting.
  • Veggies – Try new veggies, they are a great healthy choice. Lucky for us, there are plenty of different veggies, which can be prepared differently, or added to dishes to keep us from getting bored. Remember, it’s okay to substitute, as long as you keep things healthy.
  • Fruits – Fruits help me stay on track when I get a sweet tooth. Rather than reaching for candy, I’ll grab an orange, strawberry, or grapes to give my body the sugars it’s craving. Works like a charm every single time, by the time I’m done eating my fruits I have forgot why I went and grabbed them.
  • Get creative – If you’re eating chicken and broccoli for dinner every night, why not get creative and turn it into a fun casserole, or turn it into a chicken and broccoli salad. If you’re feeling bored with your diet and strapped for time you can try things like Progresso™ Soups. They have a wide variety of soups with only 100 calories per serving.
  • Plan for eating out – If you’re on the go, it can be difficult to avoid eating out, and you’re going to feel super boring if everyone heads to the diner across the street for lunch while you sit in your car and nibble on your cucumbers. Rather than becoming antisocial, and avoiding eating out, realize it’s okay to once in a while, as long as you know what you’re getting before you go.
  • Watch what you purchase – Be careful when you’re grocery shopping, and avoid purchasing items that are not diet friendly. If you cannot see it, you won’t want it.
  • Exercise – Go for a walk, run, bike ride, or head for the gym. Turn up the jams while the kids are gone, and cleaning your house counts as exercise. The music helps give you a little extra spring in your step.
  • Track your progress daily – I recently bought a Fitbit, and it’s been great! I find myself trying to beat my previous days score, and it’s even better when you start engaging with other Fitbit users. You don’t have to purchase a Fitbit, but tracking what goes in, and comes out of your body can help you focus on what’s important.
  • Quick meals – Be sure and be prepared for those days you need to eat something quick and easy, because there will be times when you need to grab something that is easy, and if you don’t have anything planned, it’s a great excuse to grab a cheeseburger.
