We hear it all the time, “everyone makes mistakes.” Of course we do, but we learn from them and move on, and there are things we either need to not make mistakes on or figure out we are making a mistake quickly, like our kids teeth. The last thing we want to make a mistake with our kids teeth. If you’ve ever had a toothache, you’ll agree, no child should EVER have to feel that pain.
With four kids, I have made mistakes with kids oral care but I’ve learned from those errors and have not made them again because teeth are critical. As a parent, the last thing I want to do is hurt my children by not caring for their teeth properly, but we are not perfect. Which is why we need to learn to turn to our resources when we have questions about things we are not 100% sure. I have learned to turn to our family dentist when I have doubts about something to do with my kids oral care. It’s better to be safe and go the extra step than sorry and make a mistake with kids teeth that can hurt them.
Mistakes Not To Make With Your Kids Teeth
Since teeth are so tremendously important here are a few mistakes not to make with your kids teeth!
Are your kids teeth healthy, if so how do you know?
Don’t skip the dentist because you think you’re kids teeth are healthy. I hope they are, but it’s better to be safe than sorry. Get them an appointment as recommended, don’t wait.
Do you let your kids brush alone?
Okay, I learned this the hard way, so I’m entirely guilty, but trusting your children to go brush their teeth as you tell them isn’t always the best idea. Kids don’t understand the importance of oral care, so they don’t take it as serious as adults, so we have to help them. Make sure they are brushing and brushing correctly. My daughter used to shut the door, turn on the water and act like she was brushing her teeth. She got away with it once that I know of, but I knew she was acting differently. Hey, I was a child, opened the door and she was playing on the floor with water on, so I thought she was brushing lol. You don’t have to look over their shoulder, just guide them in the right direction.
Oh no, don’t forget the floss.
Flossing is so important; it helps get your teeth cleaner and it’s important for kids to floss their teeth was well. So whatever you do don’t forget the floss.
It’s just a toothbrush it doesn’t make that much of a difference, does it?
OMG, the toothbrush, what it looks like and does make a huge difference. Seriously, I have four children, and they love brushing with their favorite character. I love that the lights tell them how long they need to be brushing, and they do it without fights. We’re supposed to replace our kids toothbrush about every three months so try making it fun for them. When you have a good time doing something you typically do it better, and it’s not a drag doing it right? Kids do better when things are fun too, even oral care.
