Episode: 19 – Troy Mitchum, VP of Security, The Wynn Las Vegas
Troy started working at the Wynn, Las Vegas back in 1985, he’s gone up the ranks, and even held eight different positions. He started off in the mailroom, moved to fold towels, cleaned the pool, worked as a bellman, and as a Valet parking cards all of which Troy believes have been valuable in helping him get to where he is today.
With only 12,000 employees and more than 400 of those employees working in the security force (K-9s and humans) Troy has worked for the Wynn for 30 years and recently received a promote and now leads the security team at the Wynn, Las Vegas.
Before getting his promotion to lead the security team Troy wore some hats, he even took advantage of the Wynn’s educational assistance program so he could attend college. FYI, the Wynn is awesome because he has reimbursed 100% forever A he received while in school. His college education only helped him into new a new position – Executive Director of Guest Services.
Since the Wynn has about 25,000 people who visit each day, which is about nine million per year there are certain qualities one needs to be part of the security team – present yourself well, ability to answer questions, and you need to have the right demeanor according to Troy. Being in security is so much more than having muscel and using force.
Troys security team does all sorts of security – hotel, special events, casino. To keep everyone on the same page Troy briefs with his team three times a day and their security operation has more than 400 people. One of Troy’s favorite part of the job is that they are always the good guys, they are there for service.
