Easter is almost here; can you believe it? We’ve still got a couple of months, but we all know how quickly time can fly, so I wanted to get you in planning mode with plenty of time. Giving yourself some headway makes it much easier to plan a wonderful shindig, especially for those of us working on a tight budget. Incorporate these fun celebration ideas and wallet-friendly tactics to make sure you and your kids have the best Easter holiday.

Candy on the Cheap

One of the main components of Easter celebrations for our kids is the candy, no doubt about it. If you’re looking for ways to save money on the increasingly expensive candy bags that roll out for this holiday, follow these tips. Number one: Always look around for coupons. Many retailers will offer special deals on Easter candy to beat the competition, so scour that newspaper, look up coupons online at the aptly-titled Coupons.com, and don’t buy at the first place you look. This may sound like a lot of work for some sweet treats, but every penny counts when you’re celebrating on a budget.

The Gift Conundrum

Even if you’re working on a budget you can still make this holiday exciting and individualized for your kids. Personalize some inexpensive Easter gifts with their names on them to really get them smiling this Easter Sunday. From cuddly stuffed animals to personalized Easter baskets for the annual egg hunt, you don’t have to spend a fortune to make sure your kids have the best Easter of their life. Spending a few extra bucks to find a present that is all their own is definitely worth the investment when you spot the huge grins on their faces, I guarantee it.

Check Out the Dollar Tree

If you’re still trying to fill up those Easter baskets, head to The Dollar Tree or a similar retailer in your hometown. You’d be amazed at the fun games, trinkets, and toys you can get for a mere 99 cents. This is the treasure trove, especially for gifts to the little ones, and you’ll find all sorts of bright and vibrant items sure to delight even the youngest of family members on Easter Sunday.

Hit Up Garage Sales

If you’re wanting to decorate for the Easter holiday (especially if you’re hosting this year’s festivities), check out local garage sales for some secondhand deals you won’t be able to pass up. Whether it’s buckets that you can use as Easter egg baskets, mini plastic eggs that can be hidden throughout the yard for the hunt (no more losing those stinky hard-boiled ones!), or baskets that you can decorate up to serve as beautiful table settings, you’ll usually find diamonds in the rough at garage sales. This is the best time of year to find deals in your neighborhood and families take part in their annual spring cleaning rituals and look to get rid of old items they simply don’t need or use anymore.

A Family Photoshoot

Easter means springtime and gorgeous weather—well, for most of us anyway. Take advantage and plan a family photoshoot in the sunshine with the beautiful blooms serving as the perfect backdrop. You can take the usual sweet photos and then make it more fun for the kids by pulling out surprise bunny ears for the whole family. Even your older kids will begrudgingly have fun with this wacky idea, and you’ll have hilarious photos to send out to family members and to look at years from now. You don’t have to hire an expensive photographer. Enlist the help of Facebook and find a friend with a nice camera who might be willing to take some shots of you and the kids.

The Deal with Eggs

One of the things that drives me nuts is the waste of eggs that happens each year after Easter. So they’re dyed, they’re hidden, hunted, and found, but what do you do with them after? Instead of throwing away the excess, figure out ways you can reuse those Easter eggs in the days following? From deviled eggs to egg salad, you’d be amazed at how creative you can get with a plain old boring boiled egg.

Make Easter great even if you’re working on a tiny budget. Utilize the inexpensive resources around you and some creativity to come up with wallet-friendly celebration ideas the whole family can enjoy.

These are some great suggestions. I love using coupons with sales items when I can find them. I also love shopping at Dollar Tree. Thank you so much for sharing. Happy Easter

There are various kid shows for children on Easter in our town so I do not have to worry about what to do during Easter break. Making Easter eggs is fun too.
